Marty, I'm back at home ;-)

The Galibier D'Sup hit the market in 1977. They are rather rare.

The Galibier green PA's hit the market in 1978 and were no longer available in 1984.

Me at 11 years old on top of Mt Whitney wearing a pair of Lowa Scouts that probably weighed a quarter of my body weight.
I hiked from Mineral King to Whitney in them. After that I think all subsequent hikes were done in running shoes.

Kastinger's popular leather boot in the 80s was the Habeler Superleicht, I believe with wood midsoles for stiffness/wamth.  They had two plastic boots, the cheaper Habeler (greyish/blue) and a red boot with a high altitude liner, but I don't remember the name.  Asolo made a Superlight with littleway construction and an overlap tongue--the Yukons I referenced earlier were bellows tongue and Norwegian welt (like most of the boots of that era).

The Superleichts with nickel plated Chouinard rigid crampons.

I have no use for these but can't bear to toss them. If anyone wants them for display somewhere you can have them for the cost or shipping and a photo of them in their new home.

What size? I'll take em on adventures for "historical spice" if the shoe fits

Probably 44-45. But really, I don't think they should be used. They were stored in a hot attic for years and my experience is that the glues don't hold up to that. The crampon front point have been sharpened enough that they are barely long enough. But if you want to pay shipping + $20 PM me.

Wondering if you have the Ads that were used for Galibier Super Guides in the 1970s in magazines and catalogues. I would like to use this information to prepare a description for a new pair of Super Guides (purchased in 1975) that I would like to sell.

The very first ad for Galibier Super Guide was published in La Montagne & Alpinisme in 1966:

A new pair of Galibier Super Guide boots were posted for sale (in Canada).  They are size 10. Made in France, 1975.  Boots are the original RICHARD PONTVERT, Rene Desmaison edition.  $3750  How rare are these?  I doubt that we will ever see another pair of NEW (never worn) Richard Pontvert Galibier Super Guides from the mid 1970s (46 years ago) go up for sale.  The ad for this sale and accompanying photos can be seen here: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details.html?adId=1555955560&posted=true&adActivated=true&edited=true

And to think I sold mine for $75 (almost 40 years ago).  But then I didn't have a spare pair of laces.

Greetings! I recently picked up two pairs of old climbing shoes. Green PA's and Orange D-sup shoes both are made by Richard Pontvert.

Looking for any history on the shoes..........

I'm just going through my diary from climbing at Frog Buttress in Queensland, Australia in August 1976, and have noted there that Rick White, who had a climbing shop in Brisbane, showed me an early pair of orange D-sup shoes:
"Rick White arrived. We talked gear — and looked at his new Galibier friction boots — softer rubber, almost as good as EBs, leather and canvas uppers like PAs, but grey with orange canvas. Narrower than PAs, with a toe even more pointed than EBs (or new EBs at least). Thicker sole. They're called D Sups. I might buy a pair when they come on the market — a reasonable copy of EBs, with better uppers." (8 August 1976)

Great thread. Question: my first “rock shoes” that weren’t full up mountain boots, circa 1975, were these stiff edging boots (or aid shoes) called “Black Beauties”. I’m not sure who made them or if that was really the official name. I think they had a regular Vibram sole. Anyone know what I’m talking about, have a picture, or know the background of these boots? (EBs came out shortly after and quickly became the best rock show of the day.)

Daniel:  Fabiano Black Beauties. Suede, stiff as could be w low profile vibram lug sole.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
