The idea is that you’ll be able to use the guide as a big cam on route. Haha

How long ago did the other guidebook folks (Ed, Clint et all) start saying it was near ready? This thread is nearing 8 years and there was talk a lot earlier. If it ever gets produced it's gonna be a monster!

They and George R.R. Martin are in a standoff to see who blinks first.

Complete silence from the authors. Has anyone heard anything meaningful out of them in the past few years? Asking for a friend.

You people are why we don't deserve nice things

If the binder Ed has shown me is what the book will eventually look like, then the only nice thing is going to be the volume of routes in the book

Fan of pretty photo overlays instead of actual topos?

Why not both?

Haha - I'm interested in what folks think the future of the climbing guidebooks looks like? Seems like a pdf with embedded links can offer so much more than a print book, but I know folks like the print books too!

For bouldering apps with GPS will rule the future. Knowing that you are standing in front of the boulder, having a photo with the starts and general paths overlayed is awesome.

I like the ability to print a single sheet from a pdf for the days climb. The old Green Meyers had a thing where you could pop the page out and take it. That was perfect, and if you climbed enough, you'd need to replace the whole thing as you destroyed the pages from your sweaty pockets and dirty hands-) .

Because it’s not your guidebook

To be fair, it isn’t anyone’s, because it doesn’t practically exist yet. I do like a general overview photo with rough lines on section openers then basic black and white topos. I think that is pretty common in major guidebooks these days

Copywrite law would disagree... to be fair.

Not following your point. You need another Monster to wake up? I remember you slammed them by the case at least in 2018/19. I’m just throwing out what I like to see in a guidebook, not saying I stole the manuscript, scanned it, returned it to where Ed keeps it under his beard, then tried to publish it in an attempt to undermine his years of hard work. I am curious if the large overview shots in the new tuolumne guidebook will be accompanied by more traditional topos.

I said it wasn't your guidebook so let them do their thing

You said it wasn't anyone's guidebook because it isn't finished yet.

I snarkily pointed out that copywrite provides ownership of work irrespective of whether it's been published or not

Keep up.

It’s not snarky if you have to explain the snark.

I follow you though. We had lines crossed on meanings between points 2/3. My reading comprehension scores were always the worst on standardized tests

If we hit 50 pages will the guidebook come out?

I’ve been refreshing for updates on Supertopo for over a decade with no luck. Please, fellow climbers, let’s push this to a critical mass and make our leaders act!
