Thumbs Down

People say some stupid things on here. I think we should have the ability to give a comment thumbs down.

For everyone who thinks this is a bad idea, just imagine if you had the ability to give my idea a thumbs down!

People thumbs down with their words enough. Unless your argument is that we'd get less arguing...?

Not engaging is the ultimate disapproval for social platforms. If you find you cannot not reply, consult a mental help professional at once.

I'll tell you what - thumbs down for thumbs down hand jam below the waist.

Think of it as constructive criticism. 

Without thumbs down, can we even have thumbs up?

A thumbs down promotes a certain passive-aggressive anonymity and would dilute the “discussions” and ultimately make MP more boring.

Ya gotta have the sand to express your disagreement.  Just stopping by for a quick thumbs down would be a cop out.

I really don’t think it would reduce the amount of discussion that goes on here. People will still give their thoughts even if they gave a thumbs down. It’s just an extra gauge of how the community feels about a comment.

I don’t want to bring more negativity to MP. I just think some comments need a thumbs down.

I would also like to point out the irony of everyone who has thumbs up’ed Frank’s thumbs down. I would almost count them as a pro thumbs down vote in a way. 

If you are interested in feedback, I vote "no" on the thumbs down button.

As an argument against the thumbs down feature, I wouldn’t want to create a situation where people refrained from posting in fear of receiving thumbs down. That could hurt discussion.

I would give this a thumbs down and then post to say that a thumbs down would not prevent people from still voicing their disagreement or disapproval so, in a way, this post is evidence to the contrary of what you are afraid of which I will go on to say is entirely silly.  Plenty of people just read/give thumbs up and there are many that post and respond at different frequencies. None of the frequent posters would be discouraged.

One benefit I can think of is that an accumulation of thumbs down on dangerous advice could give a newbie, that might hastily try the thing before reading on, a chance to reconsider first and investigate further which would likely just require scrolling further as people love telling others why they are wrong aeb your post here even... It could save time by not needing to read a lengthy post that won't end up being useful (something that was useful on YouTube before they took it away). 

Yeah I got sand, I can anonymously( practically anonymous anyway) disagree with you but it will take even more sand when I might get a thumbs down for it.

Actually, it doesn't.  A thumbs down button allows someone to politely and anonymously disagree with a post without getting into an argument.   Tradiban, for example, posts a lot of bullshit but do I want to get into an argument with him?  No, because that's what trolls want.  I'd guess that I've read a hundred of his posts where I had wished there was a thumbs down button.   Think of it!  Tradiban posts and gets a hundred thumbs downs, and no responses.

These days the arguments are just one person denying the words of another.  And with the posting limit, they never go to conclusion or they get removed.  Not worth getting involved.

I disagree.  If there's two thumbs up and 100 thumbs down, the new climbers will get the point.  And if they are really interested, they can ask for an explanation.

Instead of thumbs up or thumbs down we should get a button that rolls digital dice for you. The dice give you points and you can save up your points until you cash them in for a game that’s emulating snake from those old Nokia phones and then you convert your score from that game into credits that you can use to boost the stars of your FAs so that they can get repeated and downgraded.

I think thumbs up is sometimes useful, but I do find myself defaulting to thumbs down. How do you find this fits into your climbing experiences?

Thumbs up or thumbs down, I couldn’t come up with a more sophomoric way to express one’s emotions. Bravo.

The UKC forum has like/dislike, agree/disagree, thumb up/down buttons. I can't remember what they are currently called. Users can choose not to see the dislike buttons. Countless threads on there about keeping or discarding the dislike button.

Most of the users here post anonymously and that promotes a host of issues, the least of which are passive aggressive comments.
