weather in southern idaho?

hello! I am curious as to the weather in city of rocks /twin falls area climbing during july and august. I looked at the weather for this upcoming week and it's in the 90's. are the crags higher elevation? are shady crags much cooler? where are the coldest crags this time of year? thank you ahead of time! |

COR is higher but it still gets plenty hot when temps are forecasted for 85+. You can chase the shade at the city though as most crags either face east or west. During 11-2 you’ll hardly see anyone climbing until the rock gets shaded. Then the climbers look like cockroaches climbing around where the sun isn’t shining. You’re from Vegas though so you’d probably think it’s cool. I’m from MT and think anything over 78 is terribly hot. |

For the low elevation areas - Twin Falls, Massacre, etc, it's considered off-season in July/August, though climbing in the shade (usually pm for most crags) can be ok. For the City, it's morning climbing in the shade (west faces), followed by siesta time, and maybe a late afternoon session when the east faces go in the shade. Most of the limestone areas get afternoon shade and are too hot in the mornings. |

Mitch Steinerwrote: Yeah I agree. 85+ is hot. I'm trying to find my summer bird spot. I am l9oking to live somewhere when it's too hot in vegas. I don't like Mt Charleston climbing and training is so isolating. What's the humidity like that time of year? Climbing community? |
