Hi

Looking for wheels for a road trip for 3 months (visiting from UK) starting and ending in Denver. Will be driving as far north as Devils Tower and SW to Las Vegas so a fair amount of miles.

Any able to help or advise on a rent a wreck kind of basis?

Thanks in advance,

Conor

Anything that runs and drives is worth $1000-1500 last I checked, probably at least $2000-3000 for one with working air conditioning.  You might be able to register(and insure, liability is typically mandatory) a vehicle without proof of residence in some states like Florida that have a lot of seasonal residents.  Get the title notorized!  You'll also want to buy the car in a southern state with less/no salt on the roads because anything in the lowest price brackets will likely be falling apart from rust due to salt and winter driving conditions.  I would plan on flying back from a more northern state like Idaho or Wyoming though because southern cars with little to no rust on the undercarriage are a hot commodity up there.  FB Marketplace and Craigslist are both worth checking.

Buyer beware of southern cars, ie FLORIDA, SC, NC, etc. since they may have been in a Flood. There’s no sure fire way of guarding against it all, but definitely run a CARFAX report on anything you’re serious about. It’ll show reported accidents, flood, salvage title vehicles.
