The worst review ever (a rant)

I wish I had a dollar for every time I see this crap in a gear review post: "I love this pack/harness/boot/etc. It's the first pack/harness/boot I've ever owned, and it's perfect." (You have NO BASIS to make a judgement.) "This might be the best pack/harness/boot/etc there is. I can't wait to use it." (Do you also praise food before you've tasted it?) "Only had the pack/harness/boot/etc out one day so far, but I must say I'm really impressed." (One day? Really? ONE DAY??) "Really well made. Can't wait to see how well it holds up." (Yup, because durability is measured in hours.) |

Um, you're ranting about paid reviews, probably bot-generated. |

I review things as a job, and my favorite are people who really really love a product (call it product x) tell me I'm so very wrong when I compare product x to product y (even indirectly) even if they themselves only have experience with product x. Good to have a little bit of a thick skin in those circumstances. |

Gunkie, I’ve noticed that some retailers ask for a review like a week after you buy the gear, hence the worthless feedback. |

Its hard to remember to post a review of something when you have been using it so long that its not new and exciting to you anymore. |

Often, by the time I feel like I am in a position to review an item, that item has been discontinued. Manufacturers tend to change their product lines so quickly that it's difficult to get long-term reviews for anything. |
