Idaho Bobwrote: Bob, you still got snow up there? I think it likely snowed while you were off cycling! H |

Lori Milaswrote: Merrell was taken over by Columbia. You can still buy most of the exact same shoes but branded Columbia at the Columbia stores - there is a store at the Cabazon outlet mall probably an hourish away from you. |

Merrell is still sold too. I just purchased a pair of Moab hikers which I've worn for years now. The new ones seem to take a bit longer to break in with a bit different fit. Definitely try them on if you can. |

Got skunked today... Too many valid choices. We have had stunning sunsets the last few evenings. Alberta fire smoke I suppose.. the lake is 8 min from my house so we go there for sunset and desert. Bernie rolled in something dead and smelled hideous... Cold and rainy tonight. |

Long time lurker. First time poster. First started climbing in 1963. Took the basic rock course from Exum in the Tetons from Pete Lev. Pretty active from 1963 to 1983 or so. And just enjoy vicariously I enjoy the inspiration. |

Hey Idaho Bob…I just noticed you are from McCall..you know the Randolphs? I coached Greg Randolph for cycling for a while, the year he made the the US national team…He lived with us for a bit. The support from his hometown was amazing. People were sending him checks for 5 and 10 bucks just to help out. |

Thank you for the tip on Merrell, Phylp and KM! I was able to get a gracious customer service person online for a chat and sent her a picture of my torn up shoe and she identified the Merrill shoe that would be a good replacement so I took a chance and ordered it. Tony and I went for a little outing at Cabazon and it’s the greatest outdoor mall with every kind wonderful shop – – places where I used to get all my business suits and work clothes and things I used to love. But this time it was overwhelming. I told Tony I think I have lost the talent for shopping. I walked into Burberry which used to be my favorite store (that I couldn’t afford) it but I walked right out when I didn’t see any climbing shoes. So I guess the tide has turned. This morning I’m just taking a moment for gratitude of this last year of my life. While it was the most awful thing I have ever been through, and it’s not over yet, it’s certainly forced me to pay attention, and to overhaul virtually everything. The most obvious to me has been learning how to sleep deeply and plentifully. I really have treasured my Whoop, and after a few comments made here a few months ago, I have worked with the folks at Whoop to make sure everything is measured accurately. I’ve noticed that overtime my resting heart rate has dropped a lot and my HRV is the highest it’s ever been although nowhere close to your ordinary athlete HRV. Still, I’m pretty happy about it. I never would have paid attention to hydration and electrolyte balance, nor protein levels– – especially those necessary for me. And I thought I was a health nut before. Tony still rolls his eyes and I’m sure he thinks it’s not all necessary. On the other hand, he had a wife of 35 years who was a type 2 diabetic who’s average blood sugars ran over 300 and she thought she was bulletproof . She did not die very well. So maybe in some way, or at some future date some of our combined experiences on extending our shelflife will show up in some book or some article that may help someone else who’s trying. I’m just not done climbing yet.

A couple years ago, before my knees started going, I was routinely hiking 20 miles on a weekend and had an EKG. My resting heart rate was 56. Now it is around 64 because I am only good for about 10 miles a week hiking, and no climbing at all. |

I wouldn't bet on that. |

Randywrote: A post I made on WideFetish a couple months ago: ok... I went to my doctor today. Not really, but I was in Walmart buying box wine and socks and had a seat at the arm cuff machine. I was too scared to have it calculate my BMI, or fit me for orthotics, but I did the BP test. Purely genetics. Randy rides more in one day than I do in a year, and I hate walking. |

KM … Welcome! So you were climbing in 63, you know about Goldline and Pins, where are you from? Getting ready to trip out and go to Maple and then on to COR. I only thing I dislike about long trips is The Packing and Logistics. Larry is going to flip out when I haul my first load of Beer over to his place! One cannot buy beer in Almo and my last trip to Utah I found the selection poor and the price was hi. Not as bad as Canada but I find it best to bring it from CA. Last time at City the hot pool and Rock City were closed for vacation leaving me dirty and hot and thirsty. Lori- enjoy your new boots! |

Russ Wallingwrote: If you die an early death it will probably be from next-gen critters avenging the deaths of their kin. They could be holding meetings as we speak. It won’t be a comet that does you in Russ, it will be a squirrel. I have been watching my resting heart rate numbers (measured during the night) drop in the last few months from low 70’s to low 60’s. I don’t know why that is. At the same time my HRV has increased significantly. I’m kind of captivated. Could it be I’m getting strong and healthy or has the worm turned and everything is shutting down? I also noticed that my BP had been slowly rising over the last decade… at one point it was very high. My Kaiser docs made one attempt to persuade me to take a BP med… I declined and it hasn’t come up again. However now that I’m making such an effort to fill up on water/electrolytes my BP is just about normal. At least it’s good enough. So I must have been chronically dehydrated. Guy… this sounds SO fun and all your planning and packing for a long trip is exciting. I think it will be every bit of the great event everyone hopes for. I hope there are lots of pictures and stories. |

S. Neohwrote: Sideways dyno shoulder injury was the worst gym injury for me. Outdoors it was crhronic elbow pain back even when I was young. Which I would say could be due to not enough basic training in the pre-gym era, when I would just go out on weekends and overdo the straining. |
