I'm planning on being in Europe for June and am trying to find a few places to hit up (I'm pretty overwhelmed at the moment). I was thinking about Italy, France, or Switzerland. I am mostly a sport climber (5.12-) and boulderer (V5-6) and have trad experience (open to any type of climbing except big wall). From what I can find it looks like some of my options (at least for things that are in season) are Font, Dolomites, and the Verdon Gorge.
Also I would rather not rent a car/van if I can avoid it and would prefer to stay in towns/hostels. I know I'm being specific but I would rather start specific and have people tell me if this is/isn't realistic and go from there. Thanks in advance for any advice!
1) Lease a car for a month. Should be much cheaper. Google "how to lease a car in europe for vacation"
2) I agree -- don't camp, look for B&B's, auberge, etc. Especially ones that offer "Half-pension" (breakfast and dinner).
3) I loved the Verdon and much around Geneva. June may be hot for Southern south faces. Ceuse is high altitude.
4) Buy your ropes (you'll need two) ahead of time and pick them up when you get there. Doubles or twins are very handy. (I used twin 7.5s for multi-pitch; make sure to have an appropriate device.)
I'd add Céüse in southern France, if you are a sport climber and enjoy quality limestone. In the mean time you'll admire the amazing line of Biographie.
