the calm before the storm out on the lake with Isa and Bernie Monday evening Hugi breaking trail around the house. he has a little tunnel going for his daily forced outdoor walks, this was yesterday. It was even more ridiculous today but I did not have the camera handy. |

Wendy. he used to be a very active outdoor kat but with all the confusion and stress of moving he has become very much an out of shape indoor cat with little to no interest in going outside. Every day now He gets evicted for 15 min in which he travels from the front door that he got shussed out all the way around the house to the back door where he begs to come back in. this from a Kat who would go hunting for hours at his old house. Since we started this forced exercise regime he has lost a little weight and is quite a bit cleaner. that whole litter box thing is disgusting and makes him dusty and dirty. going out in the snow cleans him off. Heck at the old place he did not even have a litter box. Hugi used to be king of the hill mixing it up with all kinds of critters and always coming out unscathed. I had several shots of Hugi on this same camera but for some reason can't find them.... |

Nick, Hugi's behavior may change come warmer weather. Stormy has much less interest in being outdoors in the winter and uses the indoor facilities, which he once scorned, regularly now. As long as the door remains open he's happy. I'm happy to have him stay indoors because he's not really the alpha predator here, although he seems to think he is. |

Wendy. we will not have the total freedom that we used to have . This place has not a single rodent in it yet.. Gaurenfcnteed if I install a Kat door Hugi will bring in a troy shit ton of rodents in the house and only actually kill a 3rd of what he brings in. From now on no coming in the house without a mouth check. I am done with body parts on my pillow and a rodent infested living situation. He killed a rabbit and brought it in the old cabin. left it half eaten in the bathroom. the SOB would bring in a mouse or chipmunk, let it go and if it ran under the dishwasher or behind the couch he would be completly unfazed. Oh well, lost that one .. My bad.. He would go back outside and bring another one in 5 min later.. |

Nick, if you have to live with a cat box look at crushed walnut shell litter. You will not believe how well it works, how long it lasts, and that it has no dust. My cat has at least learned to kill before he brings it in the house, otherwise it gets pried out of his jaws and released. On the rare occasion where he does bring something alive it also goes straight under the dishwasher. My advantage is that my other cat will stake it out for days until it comes out and then it is dead and eaten. The only other problem is that when my first cat catches rats, he doesn't eat them, but the other one will grab the dead rat, bring it in the house and eat if on the throw rug next to the bed. So we wake up to crunching once in a while. Ah, the joys of a cat door and cat freedom! |

Stormy dropped a headless baby bunny on our living room rug. That's been the worst of it. Maybe another one on the front lawn. |

Nick, ever since you posted a picture of Hugi , a couple hundred posts ago, I fell in love with your cat. He is really fat! That’s a very pitiful picture of him out there in the snow… Clearly, he knows how to pose for sympathy. Keep us updated on his progress. I’ve never been without an animal in my life until now – – unless you count Tony. We’ve talked about a dog or a cat, but I figure until I can commit to taking care of a house plant I probably shouldn’t try to take care of an animal. I got a text from Todd this morning, reminding me that we really should go climb at Spy. I don’t want to seem ungrateful and I really would like to go and check it out. The thing is we got really lost last time we drove out there. We made it to Spy just fine and I was driving, turned the car around and headed back and wound up in a dry lake bed somehow pointed toward 29 palms and completely lost in the dirt. That is how we eventually found jeep guy who graciously led us the whole 7 miles out of there And we made a new friend but I really don’t want to do that again. Speaking of politics, jeep guy was pivotal for me in the pre-election era where I was the hippie, Lexus, driving liberal, and where he was a well appointed, all-around nice guy with his Trump flag flying. There has to be room for us all. Update: I still feel so lost in the health area. It helps me to talk to my daughter every now and then about her journey with long Covid. She’s starting to train for another five day Shasta journey so she’s getting better little by little but it’s been a long road. she said “mom I still sleep 12 hours a night and sometimes need a nap and that’s not changing.“ well, I clock in at 11 hours every night and still wake up in the morning wondering if I’m going to live. That’s not an exaggeration. I saw an infectious disease doctor last week at Kaiser and he was very sweet, but he said “you know, if what you have is long Covid and/or Epstein-Barr virus there’s nothing we can do about it. You just have to wait it out.“ my other doctor was more forthright yesterday… He said “I think you have a persistent spike protein…“ But he wanted to do quite a bit more testing first. I am giving this thought because I think the bottom line is “just wait it out.“ and I am getting stronger little by little and I am climbing, so maybe just hope for summer. |

Lori- You should go to the Lynn deal. A few years back they occupied my favorite place to climb at Josh. Everything was set up for TR and Lynn extended hospitality towards Jeff and I and offered to let us run the TR’s when they were having lunch. Everyone who was there looked like they were having the time of there lives. I hope everyone is surviving the weather, I know it’s hitting hard on some of us. OLH - so those spuds. You grow from seeds or spuds? |

Darn, Lynn’s clinic is sold out. Maybe in the Fall. Meanwhile Roddy has a crack clinic soon. Might try that. Enduring the harsh winter today. |

I had a nice day out this morning on different rock. We were over at Playhouse, climbing some slippery routes, me looking for fingerlocks. I was attempting a toe jam where there was no obvious place for a toe and pretty much decided to forgo the supposed crack and stem the whole way. (Shoe cam tilted here.)
Helen… I cooked the corned beef with your recipe. It was wonderful! Happy St Paddy’s Day everyone!!! |

Lori, just an FYI. As much as I like Lynnie (I have known her for almost 50 years) there isn't anything she can teach you that Bob can't also teach you. If you were really short I might recommmend her because she is as good as anyone at body position to overcome being short, but if all you want is basic technique, including crack, Bob is everything you will ever need. I got almost all the rest of my garden planted this afternoon. So far I have 13 tomato plants, 6 poblano chili plants, 1 jalapeno plant, lots of basil, and fresh plantings of Italian oregano and French thyme to go with my old growth Greek oregano and thyme and rosemary (all three of which are getting near end of life). I also have chives and garlic growing since last summer. I have room for either a couple more tomato plants or a couple tomatillo plants, depending on what I can find. |
