Blacksmith/welder- any useful items possible?

Title says all. The only things I could think of that might be useful would be rap rings, hooks, or custom beaks, and I’d want to get those professionally heat treated.  I’m no Merlin so cams are absolutely out of the question. Anybody have any other ideas for useful, relatively simple metal hardware?

Seems to me Chouinard was a pretty good blacksmith. . .

Piton / bolting hammers, rap rings, maybe canyoneering descenders, chain welded onto things like rings, ...?

Make a super light, super durable, rap device for people who mainly climb with a grigri. Bonus points if its still usable as a belay device.

Sounds like the Kong Gigi / Camp Ovo.

Made out of aluminium so not super durable, poor for lead belaying. Doesn't handle a thin rope well so i wouldn't want to use it when rapping normally using a tag line.

I've done lots of raps w/an ovo and skinny lead+6mm tag combo.  It's not that bad.  If you're carrying a grigri anyway, you're not going to be need to use the ovo for a lead belay, so the fact that it's not great at that isn't an issue.  (though I'm fairly sure it can function in that role in a pinch)

Two large chain links welded together side-by-side. More durable than light.

Q for the OP - can you TIG some metal onto shortened crampon points? You wouldn't be the first to do that, but there may be a market for it for crampons with non-replaceable frontpoints e.g. original Darts and the light Grivels.

That’s very doable!! I’m one of those terrible new sport climbers so there’s a lot to the vertical world I’m unfamiliar with. Thanks for the idea. All of this is unfortunately for future planning- not enough time in the day currently. Great idea.

Like a steel ATC? Confused as to what you’re getting at here.

Hmm- seems too flimsy/lightweight. I was thinking maybe depleted uranium.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
