Hi, I’ve got a trip to red rocks planned – planning to climb tomorrow (3/9/23) through Saturday. Plan for tomorrow is linking Myster Z with Armatron. these are more sunny. However, recently saw some pictures of snow in the hills and shaded areas.. I’m wondering if any local has an opinion on the dryness of these types of routes? Have the cracks and chimneys had enough time to dry? I know there is limestone in the area - but I’m specifically wondering about whether or not any of the long south facing multipitch’s would be considered dry enough from a local’s opinion. Thanks in advance!
From what I gather, the descent will be the main issue. I know Epinephrine is not safe to the descend right now. I’m assuming that means that Mr. Z and Armatron are also a no go. However, if any local could confirm, that would be super appreciated!
I'm not a local, but I think you should climb tomorrow.
It hasn't rained for a week, according to Wer Rock Police.
The temps look great for tomorrow. (Friday looks very windy) I would guess the descent is much more favorable from Armatron than from Epinephrine, based on sun aspect.
Rock on those walls is fine to climb this week. Expect some snow in the descent but you should be fine. The walkoff is casual so even with snow it won't be a big deal. If it ever looks like you have to do some sketchy scrambling on the descent, look around some more and there will be an easy way down with a cairn leading the way.
Also I'd like to add Jon, thank you for being respectful of the local ethic and asking.
