Block feature

For the love of god can we please get a block feature???

Who do I need to email?

I selfishly want this to block people I find annoying, but given the sexual harassment out there in a male dominated sport I’m surprised this isn’t a thing.

Does “Ignore user” not suit your needs?

Ignore user is useless; "oh hey user 'so and so', who you hate, made a comment... Wanna see it??" 

Their comments show up when they are quoted by non-ignored user.

Did something change? Usually if a non-ignored user quotes an ignored user that post is also hidden with the option to reveal if the itch is felt.

Ignore user is more like a "mute" feature. It acts one way.

A block feature is two way, and should remove the comments and threads. If someone is blocked, they can't see that I exist, can't see my threads, can't see my comments, etc. and vice versa. For example if I block someone on Instagram or they block me, they don't even show up in my search results. It's like they don't exist for me, and I don't exist for them.

That wouldn’t work in a forum context. Instagram etc is a different format.

I think you're close. It's certainly possible, and there's no reason it couldn't be implemented similar to ig or twitter.

One way would be the following block rules. If user A blocks user B, or vice versa:

• neither user can see threads the other started
• neither user can see comments the other user made on existing threads
• neither user can see quotes of comments the other user made on existing threads

Twitter handles the last point a bit differently though, if someone quotes a tweet from an account you have blocked, it shows "Tweet unavailable", and you can click into it and force view it if you want. If that person blocked you, you don't see anything though.

There is in the climbing community in general. If there's someone in real life you are not comfortable with or have a history with, it would make sense that you might want to block them on here.

So any an entire thread would disappear to you if someone on your ignore list made one comment in it? Or if an unignored person quoted an ignored person their comment would entirely disappear? And vice-versa to a person on your ignore list, any thread you commented in would be invisible?

There’s so many coding conflicts I don’t think it would even be possible.

The power would be in the trolls’ greasy hands with this solution. Totally unacceptable

Problem is, “ignore” Is supposed to prevent the ignored user from commenting in your threads. It doesn’t. They can still comment all they want. Ignore should also block the ignored user from accessing your profile page. 

A block feature that could be tweeked to include regions/states, genders, political leanings and hair color and style would get my vote. Imagine, you could block everyone and the whole website would be all yours!

That kind of discrimination definitely sounds like the start to a solution I have read about before. Not sure it worked out well for anyone though
