Stoney Point Wet Rock Warning
We had 3 days of rain. :) we need it! Stoney is going to take at least a week or so of dry out. Starting Jan 18. |
Woke up this morning and was surprised and happy to see it raining- sort of hard. |
Guy, hoping it gets here soon. Way too dry in the So Cal mountains, trees will die again in droves if this drought continues. Cheers, A. |

OK… didn’t rain that much in Chatsworth- so for anyone wondering it’s good to go for this weekend 2-19/20…. Have fun |
The season is on! First Tuesday of daylight savings brought out the crowd- all 15 of them. See ya later |
Don’t know about Chatsworth but here in Burbank it rained hard last night for a few hours. Use discretion if you decide to head to Stoney today. |

I was happy to be driving back from a big race in Vegas when I drove into a big ass rain storm. Tales of multiple car pile ups on the local freeways made me smile (apologies if you were in one). We need the rain- happy to just walk around Stoney for a week- hopefully more rain will come and shut down Stoney for a long time. |

Yes. Stoney should be left to dry until Saturday. Unless you are going to work on Hot Tuna. I was at Stoney the other day (yes it's true) and got to wondering about Three Pigs; Thinking about the guy(s) you first saw that seam as an aid line. They would have started doing it with knife blade pitons. Then, as the scars started to form lost arrows and then bent u-shaped pitons, maybe a bong in that 4th hole up top. I'm guessing post Salathe so maybe 1958 to 1968. Might be possible to do today as clean aid with Ballz nuts or small Totem cam in the three pigs holes and a large hook move at the top. It would be a novelty. More fun and safer to do as a boulder problem. |

I thought the story was that it was entirely manufactured with Ice Tools from the top of a VW Van ?? |

Quinn for the win! Sort of. The 3 Pigs was in place when I started climbing in 73. Lots of nailing aid back then. |
Big rain last night! The place is closed for the duration. If you want to Boulder go to granite, if you don’t know where that is DM me. |
Stoney is still wet- it rained hard on Tuesday 12-13 …. It’s been really cold outside so not drying out. But I did see some folks with pads on Thursday! Clueless fools- and most are! The fact is that most of them didn’t know about the soft stone. Tons of other places to go. Look up thread. |
If you get out to Stoney today- Tue 12/20. Say hi. Im the very handsome fit older gentleman! LOL -free cold one to the first few … till they are gone. |
Happy to report that last night 12/27 it rained hard. We need it. |
Stoney Point is closed to climbing for the rest of 2022. Don't be a fool and try to climb there this week. I saw a couple climbers there last week just after the rains, I spoke to one of them and he was acting like it's no big deal to be on the rock after the rain. I subsequently heard from friends that there is some fresh hold breakage on Boulder #1 and elsewhere. |
One of us should make a flier and post it in all the LA area gyms at the beginning of every wet season. |

Spider Savagewrote: Spider…. It would be a good thing. I prefer the face to face education. Most climbers are shockingly ignorant about the wet sandstone dilemma. I go almost everyday. When it’s wet and you are lugging in a pad, me or one of my associates will come over and say “HI”. It rained all nite and it’s still raining. 12/31/22…. With any luck this goes on for the next 3 months. Happy New Years |

Three days of glorious rain as of today 1-5-2023. |
1-10-2023 it has rained hard for the last week and looks to be continuing for at least another week! Stoney and the Oaks need this. please stay off of the rocks.
I think some thieves are stealing the problems… new enhancements are EZ to spot. (See above photos) |
