Spammed Private Ticks occasionally breaking several pages

Epinephrine, Solar Slab, etc...

Some user very obviously set a bot or something to private tick a ridiculous amount of routes and its occasionally breaking some pages. Sometimes just a very long loading time for route statistics, other times absolutely breaking the text of the tick notes. 2+ ticks of the same long multipitch the same day, etc...

Ban the user/bot or figure out some other fix please.

I think tick lists for popular routes just suck since the MP site loads them all at once. I'm looking at the tick lists for both those routes, and while they take forever to load, there doesn't seem to be any egregiously incorrect or spammy-looking data.

You're totally right about the poor UX though. Unless you have decently fast internet, the page is pretty much unusable until it loads completely (if it does load completely without running out of memory).

It definitely didn't take this long to load before the private ticks change.

I agree - it definitely takes longer to load than before. I may be remembering incorrectly, but didn't there use to independent  "Private ticks" on routes? Now, it seems like they're consolidating all private ticks under a single "user" as opposed to having them associated with the independent private users. This seems like maybe an "improvement" that isn't as efficient as intended

Tick loading got a lot slower when it stopped being chronological and started being grouped by user. Also the addition of "Show More" buttons, which was likely driven by the removal of the tick length limit.

This change stopped the browser from progressively rendering ticks as the page loaded, and instead it now needs to download/render all of the ticks before the page is usable.

Private ticks came after this (I think) and really aren't related. I also don't think the private ticks are spammed; there are just lots of users with private ticks. They are all grouped together now, while initially they weren't.

I don't think there's any value in showing private ticks in the ticklist at all though. Removing them, or at least the dates, would make things marginally better.

I didn't realize they were consolidating multiple private users ticks to a single entry. That makes a lot more sense than a single private user spamming with a bot. I don't know why I didn't notice that there was only a single private user listed before.

Progressive loading would help usability a lot and yeah, consolidating all private user ticks to one doesn't allow progressive loading, at least not the way it would appear to be configured on the backend. Not showing private ticks at all could be nice and makes some sense. I like the idea of showing them all as individual ticks though in case there is some reason legal, medical, or otherwise where knowing a person climbed a route could apply. MP DB admin could look them up and contact them if there was some important reason for it. Having some one to reach out to as a potential witness to determine fault of an incident, etc... I know, long stretch, edge cases, etc...

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
