From the reviews I’ve read if you want a longer axe that serves as axe for skimo get the hummingbird as it comes in 50 cm while Petzl only has 45 cm

However not sure if 45 is good enough for some 5’10” (178 cm)

I haven’t looked at other brands yet

I’m the same height and have used the Petzl ride in rainier and baker with no issues.  But I personally would prefer the extra 5 cm.

No experience with Hummingbird but at 6’ I don’t really have any issues with the Ride.

Have used both. Both are good axes, with Blue Ice being slightly lighter. I'm 5'8" and currently have the 45cm hummingbird. I think 50cm is a sweet spot for general use and function. If I could do it over, I'd get 50. 45 suits me fine, but there have been times where it would have been convenient to have the 50.

Purchased the hummingbird 50.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
