Spam: CBD Gummies

Im tired of having to explain why I'm flagging spam.  Can we get a feature in the choice that is for CBD gummies without having to type an explanation?

(Yes, this is petty. Yes, this is being lazy on my behalf but I know others might have a similar view)

Edit: CBD Really!?  I'm in CA, we can get better stuff.

You don't have to explain it - just put one character (a period, a letter) in the explanation field and that will do it. The post will be deleted immediately for a new user.

Being in Europe, it seems like these spam posts appear first for us over here due to the time difference. Lately, I’ve been flagging 2-3 every morning. I guess there is no way to filter posts that have “CBD” or “gummies” in them? (I suppose the OP’s post would have been flagged… aargh!)

Honestly it would be pretty easy for OnX to implement a filter, they just haven't.

Or to at least respond somehow to a relevant thread about spam, but they just haven't.

Filter criteria could be:

1. Mention of CBD and/or gummies.

2. Multiple imbedded links.

3. New account.

Anything else…?

Yesterday morning I flagged at least a dozen advert/gummy spam messages. I think they show up here in Europe first for some reason. Perhaps you U.S. west coasters are lucky and they get cleared out before you get out of bed. Maybe??? If so, you're welcome! ; )

Thank you for keeping the CBD ads out of CA!

OnX has enough money to automatically reject this kind of spam somehow (Bayesian system, even). I suspect no one knows how to modify the forum code tho after REI did the last big update. (But that's just a guess)

My guess is the whole thing is still built on Laravel and would be fairly straightforward to modify the forum code. At least for someone who knows that framework and or PHP.

I think the bigger question is: Do they care?

The answer is probably no

New around here but already seeing tons of spam posts for diet pills and CBD stuff.  

Most bear all the classic hallmarks of spambot sign ups so an easy defeat layer would be adding a CSS based honeypot field on the sign up page.  An invisible field would be even easier.  Both easy mods and would probably catch 99% of these spam posts.

My guess also. I gave up reporting posts a long time ago; there surely should be some fixes available to prevent posting that spam...

It's extremely inefficient for a third-party to detect and flag spam though. I'd love to work with OnX or MP to build the spam detector into the forum. Please reach out at zichongkao@gmail.com if there's any interest!

A variety of spam/bot activity is blocked daily, but we see the ongoing problems reported here and have some steps to improve things further.
