Dexter is bored with the manhood measuring contest between Adam, David K, and Bruno.  He suggests you all get a room.

I am so proud that both sides of the aisle came together to help us on our way to 30 pages! We are so close. With support from the dog lovers and the canine stabbers we will see our goal become a reality.

I just want to thank everyone who got us this far.

29 pages of shit talking and most likely zero people who have been converted to the opposite party.

Way to go!

Alright, enough with the knife foreplay. Let's get down to the real shit. Crag dogs are 100% the reason I always bring my crag gun with me. I carry a .45 ACP if I'm bouldering, and a .38 special up on multipitches to save a little weight. Doesn't have the stopping power of the .45; but ya never know when some rotty or pitbull is gonna rap in on top of me and go for the jugular.

When I'm aid climbing (pretty rare but ever' now and then it happens) I bring my FGM-148 Javelin to destroy crag/attack dogs before they can so much as bark at me and cause emotional trauma. One can never be too safe.

Will- you are totally on the right track here!!  Only the one gun at a time though? Seriously? Its beyond doubt that more weapons, especially guns makes you safer, regardless of the situation.  I highly recommend that in addition to your .45 ACP you add a .40 cal and several 9mm to serve as buckup guns/to ensure you stay safe (ideally with 30rd magazines).  You NEED to have multiple guns at all times to keep you SAFE.  Sadly the deep state made it so you can't have anything full auto.  Not to mention how the deep state defunded all the heros in blue that would be at the crag preemptively arresting anyone that looks suspicious or out of place.  Until we pass a federal law the requires every man, woman and child to carry a loaded gun at all times we will not be safe- full stop.  AMERICA NEEDS MORE WEAPONS!  Cuz the Bible says so!

One viable alternative- every man, woman, and child keeps with them a viscous canine handy at all times for self defense?  Wait- they would just get proactively stabbed at the crag.  Gunna have to be blades and guns after all.

Dexter is not impressed with your feeble attempt at trolling.

Also he says you should carry pistol AR chambered in .308 Blackout.

@ Adam--the video of the lab trying to cover up the baby is amazing.  I will definitely show that to my family.  Thanks!  And I mean that sincerely.

The second video is frightening.  Those two dogs should obviosuly be on leash, maybe with muzzles. That said, I don't think you'd need a knife or a gun to deal with that situation.  For the women in the story it's obviosuly different, and I'm not criticizingb them for their reaction of behavior, but I'm a big athkletic guy, and I'm not afriad to get involved and get hurt, so I think the first thing I would do if I saw that happening was pick that kid up--way up--taking whatever bites and attacks was necessary, and then defend myself from the dogs with vocie, legs, arms, hands, and so on.  If I could pass the kid off, lift it over a fence, lock it in a car, and so on, I would then deal with the dogs by trying to pick up the most aggrressive by the hackels, or hold them down, or kick them, of whatever was necessary.  I would try my best not to kill the dog, and I would absolutely suffer bites and cuts in the process, perhaps even serious injuries, but I would do everything I could to control the animal without killing it.  If I felt my life was threatened, I would escalate, of course, using fists, gouging, rocks, bottles, whatever.  I would survive, but I would be sad that I had to kill an animal.

More broadly, what the hell does a society do with dogs like that?  There are rehabilitation centers for problem/aggresive dogs, and I think they can work.  I'd try to find those dogs a place to be were they can get the training and care they need.  Whoever owns or is responsable for those dogs should definitely pay a high price, including assault charges and jail time.

But attacks like that are very, very rare.  Much more common would be a dog that just snaps at somebody's hand, or, in your case, at your heels.

I'm goung to guess that the dog that bit your heels wasn't a 100 lb monster, right?  Of course I could be wrong, but I bet it was just a little yappy thing.  I'm going to guess that if you turned around and menaced the dog that bit you, it would have stopped in its tracks and barked ineffectively.

Who knows, maybe you got bit in the heel by some kind of huge pit/rot mix, but I think in that case the dog would have gone for your hams or glutes. You would have had to fight back much harder, but I still don't think using your stabby thing would be warranted.

In my value/erthics system, which I know makes you tear your hair out in amusement/frustration, I'd rather use a knife or gun on a human rather than a dog.  Dogs are animals, they have the cognitive abilities of small children, harming them is like attacking handicapped people or kids.  I'd respect your position more if, following a dog attack, you went after the owner with your knife and not the dog.  It ain't the dogs fault.

Just watched that second video again--saw those two guys in the street.  From what it looks like, they're firing weapons at the dogs in the direction of the house where the video is being filmed?  Is that right?  Good god.  If we ever needed an example why people should not carry guns...that's fucked up.  Those two guys could (relatively) easily have controlled those dogs without firearms (or knives).  What a crazy world.  And for all those reading who are new to this thread, I'm not a naive, starry-eyed Swiss, despite my German sounding name.  I'm from the US.  I grew up in NYC in the 70s and 80s, when the city was a different place than it is now, and I saw shit like that semi-regularly.  Doesn't make me want to own a knife or a gun though--quite the contrary.

High enough viscosity and it’s about the same thing

Pitties weren't a plague to society back then so I don't think you understand, these little monsters go for the kill not a butt/leg bite. There are so many of them and their offspring in the shelters its hard to adopt a dog without pit bred into it. I'm with you on the weapon thing but if you have ever lived next to a psycho dog or two you may reconsider that.

Really its just fun to bust on Burchey over his dog stabbing fantasies with extra small knives.

Sorry, this is not specific to climbing.

The other day I was out running. I live in a rural area, miles of glorious dirt roads for running, biking, etc. I am running along, riding the endorphin high, then out of nowhere a pit bull is coming at me, barking loudly and charging at my nuts. I'm like "FUCK this dog" yell at it and grab a rock. We are in a face off, each waiting for one of us to make a move.

The house across the road has a FUCK BIDEN flag with the letters made out of AKs. The disheveled man emerging from the door starts screaming " HEY! You fuck ! Get the fuck in here, you piece of shit! No way am I gonna lose my house over you! " For a second I am confused,  but the dog is literally  cowering,  and slinks away towards the side door of the house. In that moment, I go from being the dogs enemy to the dogs ally.

"He wasn't biting me, he was ok." I said to the guy.

"That fucking dog, sometimes he does bite. I'll fucking teach him"

I should have suggested just putting the dog on a leash, but I didnt. I ran away. But I do think, yes, if I needed to I would have defended myself from that dog. But the dog is a victim of the abuses of his human and is really an innocent.  Dog behavior is a reflection of their environment and that guy is the one who deserves a thrashing. Instead he's probably taking out his rage on that poor animal.

Dogs at Crags? Prob not, most of the time. But I do think dogs are intrinsically good, until showed otherwise by humans who if not intrinsically bad are certainly often lacidasical when it comes to proper pet training.

That’s a solid lineup.
