Is the mobile app open source?
|
Hi, I am a software developer and would be interested in contributing some bug fixes and/or new features. Is the Android mobile app open source? What is the process if I want to contribute ? |
|
Hi Payne, Great question. I saw your direct message, too, but thought it was worth posting here. MP is not open source. We welcome any and all feedback, especially about bugs you find. We check these subforums regularly so they are a good place to send things our way. Or you can email content@mountainproject.com and someone will get back to you. Thanks for your interest! |

I assume MP is a non-profit (which makes me curious about its sources of funding). Are MP devs all volunteers? What prevents the app from being open-sourced? In terms of bugs, the 2 main ones I can recall right away already have a post about them in the forum. In terms of features:
I think this last point has already been discussed (I seem to recall an old post about it), but I think that to fully profit from the power of community, we need to enable such things. Maybe introduce a way to up/downvote whatever comments people make, to make it easier to filter out the noise. Cheers! :) |

MP is not a non-profit but is owned by onX, see: mountainproject.com/forum/t… |

Thanks, Payne. There isn't a way for users to select the quality of downloaded images but users can edit the different fields on area and route pages. After logging into your account on the site, look for the "Improve This Page" link in the upper-right corner of any area or route page. Select the field or option from the dropdown list (screenshot below). Comments can also be added at the bottom of area and route pages through the site. |

On editing content: I'm talking about specifically being able to do so from within the mobile app, without having to go through the website. Also, I apologize that it was confusing when I said "features": I meant that those 2 bullet points above were proposed as new features to be introduced in the mobile app. |

I understand, thanks for clarifying, Payne. Yes, incorporating commenting and editing within the mobile app is on our list. As well as considering up/down voting to help sort comments. Thanks, again, for the feedback. |
