looking for climbing posibility for sunday october 9 Los Angeles Area
|
Hi I'm Jeroen, 37 year old, from the Neterlands and I've joined this forum because I'm looking for a climbing partner/partners for sunday october 9th. For the last years i've been mostly bouldering, but have done sportclimbing (toprope, single and multy pitch) in the past. As i'm foreign to climbing in California, i'd like to find company for fun, safety and local knowledge. I'm not a great climber, and as I fly in from europe 2 days before am not looking to break personal records, i would just like to enjoy some climbing and good company if possible. My climbing level is around 5.10B (6a+ to 6B euro grading) depending on type of route might top a 6C (5.11A/5.11B). I will bring my own shoes for bouldering, and can bring harness, belay device and some quickdraws, but a crashpad or extra hardware will be hard to take along on the flight. I wil have acces to a rental car so should be able to join up somewhere. During the week, I hope to be able to get some bouldering in at one of the climbing gyms in the evening, I see there are some posibilities like hangar 18, and sender one, any tips on best spots for my climbing grade is welcome. I think there is plenty to do in Los Angeles, so I will probably find some way to spend my time, but it would be great to experience some of the local climbing and climbing comunity, so I hope to be able to meet up with some nice people. Tanks for any tips or help, hope to see you out there enjoying the rocks. best regards Jeroen |

Jeroen Netherlands wrote: If you search "climbing gyms los angeles" on google maps, you will see more options that those two come up, like Stronghold and LA Bouldering. The reason it is important to look at the locations on the map is because LA is 400 sq Miles big, and it can be a nightmare to get across town. Look for the closest place to where you will be working, or at least someplace that waze says will take less than an hour to get to. Seriously if you were working in North Hollywood and you wanted to get to Sender LAX, it could take you 2 hrs at rush hour. I'd love to help you out as a partner but I won't be available. The LA adjacent climbing areas, like Malibu Creek State Park, will be packed with people on a Sunday. If you don't make definite plans with someone, it's worth just heading out and meeting people there. |

Thanks for the response Phylp Phylp, I will keep in mind the difficulties in getting around town, when looking for the best climbing gym. Great to know which areas are busy in the weekend, normally I would try to get away from busy places but in this case it might be worth finding a more popular spot. Thanks again and great climbing. Avoid Stronghold climbing gym. The staff are elitist assholes as are the members. Moreover, the parking lot has a big problem with car vandalism...the owners know this but have done nothing towards abatement. I recommend the Touchstone gym franchise...there are several throughout L.A. Definitely check out Stoney Point!!! |
