Hey all,

Wanting to get at Stone Fort area more but I live a ways away. I’ve seen the crash pad hostel but looking for a much cheaper option this fall. I’ve also heard pep boys but it might be a hike in/back country type thing? Also hunter check but looks like it’s an hour away. Seems like this area is hard to overnight unless you live close. Anyways, just looking for low-cost suggestions.

Camping at Pep Boys is for thru-hikers only, with a permit required. Two years ago the Stone Fort owner was letting people car camp in the parking lot, but ownership has changed hands in the last year. Do you have a vehicle you want to sleep in? If so, give them a call to see if they still allow car camping. The only other free/cheap camping option I know of is T-Wall, 45 minutes away. If you are not dead set on Stone Fort, Rocktown is free to enter and camp near by. Make sure you have the necessary permit.

Chester frost park is another option, 2 night minimum though

Check out Jeff's mountaintop playground on FB. Around a 25 minute drive to Stone Fort.
