Climber pays for advertisement on their Instagram send video

So…. Did you click on and watch their send video or not??? |

Paying to promote a send video is kind of weird in my honest opinion. But, I don't really care what people choose to do with their own money. At the end of the day, fuck yeah congrats on the send. |

What's an ad like that cost? Does one pay per click or something? Do you have to pay for bot views too? Just curious.... |

Cherokee Nuneswrote: You set a maximum amount to pay. Each interaction or view or something brings your cost up until your max is reached. That's my understanding of it at least. So you can set 20$ but reach less people than if you set 100$ |

Jesse Quandtwrote: It kind of all depends on what people’s end game is. @ladylockoff, for example, is a pretty big presence on instagram and now makes a living doing photography in large part due to having a shit ton of followers early on which gained her more exposure. Many of the followers early on were acquired by bots (before instagram started cracking down on that) but because of the algorithms at the time she was able to reach a larger audience due to having more followers. These followers and exposure eventually lead to job opportunities which eventually yielded a monetary gain. So if this person’s end game is to accrue followers in order to benefit them in some way (even if just for clout) then it makes perfect sense to promote themselves in hopes of gaining a follow or two…who knows, maybe eventually they pick up a sponsorship and get free shit. But I agree. Unless the edit was sick it seems unlikely that spamming people with V10 send videos will yield any sort of gain from my perspective. |

I am a bit timid on posting the actual advertisement as I don't want any hate going their way. I feel like if I post even just a censored image of it, people will hunt them down and harass them. It was essentially someone's raw V10 send footage on a boulder in Tennessee with just a description of what they learned working the boulder. No editing or anything. |

Currently listening to an episode of the Nugget Podcast with Sam Van Boxtel of Climber's Crag discussing this very topic...the idea of self promotion to gain a following with an end goal of somehow creating revenue from a social media presence. These are strange times we live in, I never could have imagined this concept back in '05 when I fired up the dial-up modem and logged in to facebook for the first time... I can't even imagine what it all looks like another 20 years from now...scary! |
