Anyone have a line on 1/2" threaded to SDS adaptors?

Looking to streamline our local re-bolting efforts. Can't seem to find a 1/2-20 threaded male to SDS Plus adaptor anywhere, only 5/8-11. Anyone have a line on these?? (Long story is we are using the Hurly Jr/Sr bolt pullers here, and they are not compatible with our spinning tools (which are 5/8"), meaning that we often have to laboriously swap out couplers and pullers when the bolt we're spinning gets too loosey goosey to unscrew and...it's a PITA). |

Those SDS adapters all have 1/2”-20 threads, but the main bolt and couple nut in a Hurley Jr are 1/2”-13 thread.

That's gonna be tough. I'd imagine that anything that adapts to a 3-jaw chuck is going to be fine thread. (Though I don't get why the adapters are 5/8-11 instead of 5/8-18) Do you have access to a lathe? The thread minor on 5/8-11 is 0.557 so, if it's not hardened, maybe you could turn it down and cut 1/2-13 threads? |

If you want store bought stuff you will only find 1/2 - 20. You can make your own 1/2 - 13 from a old bit. If you use a Hurley that is what I would do because your coupler will likey always jam on the wedge stud due to the twisting of the Hurley. |

I’d recommend updating pullers to greggermans doodad, or YABRs (anything with a ball screw) which you can get threaded 1/2”x20. They’re much more user friendly, and less prone to breaking bolts due to twisting. A couple weeks ago I saw someone who had cut the 1/2”x13 bolt on the Hurley, then added a coupler and short section of 1/2”x20 to the end. This limits the throw, but allowed him to swap couplers. If you use red Thread lock on the spinner sds/coupler and get it tight, you can put the drill in reverse and pull out after spinning to get it to unscrew from the bolt which makes it easier to go between the different couplers for spinning/pulling. This seemed the easiest when I was using a Hurley |

Peter Thomaswrote: Yeah the YABRs are nice but pricey. We already have a kit of Hurleys... One of our guys down here is going to try to turn 5/8-11+SDS adaptors down to 1/2-13 on his lathe, so we can avoid having to swap couplers. Thanks for the tips |
