Is labeling people like Muir as racist a dangerous, slippery slope? Since 2021, people can’t suggest returning to the office without risking being labeled as racist. They also can’t use terms like Master Bedroom or Master Bath without the same risk.

Tats, racism within the founding fathers and fisting stuff. I approve of this thread. How about Benjamin Franklin banging his slaves and selling his own children? The same guy helped write our constitution and declaration of independence! |

Jim Twrote: Did you actually read this article? I think the takeaway is much more that white men don't understand other people's perspectives. I've heard a lot of talk from women about feeling more comfortable working from home for various reasons, feeling less judged, not having to worry about appearance as much, being easier to manage their other responsibilities that women disproportionately bear. And I don't hear white dudes talking about that despite having heard women talk about it quite a bit. The thesis of that article is correct in my personal experience. Despite being in the furthest left political ideology I do think that sometimes (usually progressive liberals and not actually leftists) go too far in seeing everything through the lens of race, but probably 80% of the time complaints of woke-ness are just like this, which are people complaining that someone wants to consider perspectives of someone other than white dudes. |

More thread drift …. Great point, Ricky. Most open-minded people would wonder why twice as many white dudes want to get back to the office compared to black dudes. Note: open-mindedness does not equate to racist. |

Lol I ain't gonna pretend I'm fun at parties, we all know I'm not. Unless your idea of a fun party is discussing the fascinating intersection of liberalism and leftism, in which case my parties are ragers.
Yeah no, my bad, I'm rarely accused of having social skills. I read things wrong a lot. You got any climbing tattoos? There ain't enough show and tell in this show and tell thread. |

Lets be real. John Muir wasn’t a low grade racist. The dude basically advocated for murdering all native americans in Yosemite. But bro… the mountains are calling and i must go. |

Eric, thanks for sharing the pictures, the stories behind your tats and your thoughts about tattoos and reactions to people’s comments here. All very interesting to me. I have always loved tattoos but never really wanted onethought of an image that was worthy of permanence nor did I want to pick something from a book. Reading this I got answers to so many questions I have wanted to ask tattoo’d people. I have never asked someone why they got their tats or what the tats mean to them. Asking about tats always seemed impolite. Your tattoos are very cool. All monochromatic but in different styles. Great post. Thank you. |

Ricky Harlinewrote: apologies for the shaved chest and lack of beard. The former was necessitated by the design, the latter by a job interview . Left to right: - My fraternity (Alpha Chi Rho Omega) - Greek monograms of "sufficient grace." - Hebrew for "beloved" with a shepherd's crook - Hebrew for "it would have been enough" and "Prince of Peace" as designed by a certain Jewish old lady on MP. - Latin for the mantra I repeat before every lead climb - Greek for "blessed are the peacemakers, motherfucker" - Luther Rose, even though I don't drink enough beer to be a Lutheran. (When Chongo Chuck saw this a couple months ago and learned that I didn't recant and don't regret, he blew a gasket and didn't even say thanks for the spliff and coffee, just took his toys and went home. Contrary to my evangelical brethren, I don't give a randy rodgering if you're a devout atheist or a fundamental LDS or a gluten-free Pastafarian, just don't be an insecure asshole about it). Not pictured: - Tricep: "Emmanuel" in Hebrew, as designed by the aforementioned OLH. - Distal bicep: Greek monograms for "psyche hiatros," healer of souls. - Deltoid: another variation on AXPW (fraternal order of exorcists) Coming soon: Hebrew for the mantra I repeat before following every pitch. And a wraparound lattice to link the upper sleeve designs. I've been on the one-a-year plan with Greg Heinz at Raw Canvas since 2014. One artist for life, monochrome only, right side only because I'm a southpaw and it incorporates some prior "autocartographical" designs, if you catch my DFW drift. Like I said, none of these are explicitly rock-centric, but they all have intense personal meaning and stories behind them, and they all get a lot of vert, whether they like it or not. QED, they are climbing tattoos. |
