Colin,

Please take your religious nonsense elsewhere and stop forcing it on us.

Indeed, MP is a diverse set of people and many of us would prefer it NOT to be used in anyway to proselytise or exclude anyone else due to their beliefs. RC.com tried the "Christian" gambit and died immediately. Keep ones religous views private between oneself and ones god, don't involve us.

John 3:20

I mean considering the Bible contains (and condones) more contemptible cruelty than any other book I've read, I don't think you should be surprised it was censored.

I don't understand why Christians use Bible citations in a secular context like an internet climbing forum.

Between believers I can see how it might hold significance in an appeal to a higher/shared truth, or as a way of trying to engage in a somewhat scholarly debate on a shared issue ... so that one side or another can study and reference a text.

But for secular climbers that take issue with the proselytizing, it's not as if these citations hold any particular authority.  Furthermore, it strikes me as passive aggressive in thinly veiling your perspective.

For example, if you look up that quote, it says "Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed."   You can't be seriously implying that volunteer moderators who make good faith efforts to keep things on-track are evil, right?

I don’t even know how to do that. Actually, having never read the bible, I’ve never known what those names and numbers meant. If you haven’t guessed, I grew up in an overtly non-religious household and rejected religion at a very early age.

This is why I find Colin’s posts so objectionable.

I think that's why it all feels so unnecessary, but for your information...

  1. You can generally copy/paste any one of those 'Verses' into Google and get the referenced text
  2. The structure is [BOOK] [CHAPTER] : [VERSE] e.g. John 3:16

Yes, of course. But I would need to care enough to do so.

This guy redirected his belay with a microtraxion and y'all are all hung up on Jesus?

The micro redirect was dismissed as a bad idea rather quickly but maybe you didn't see that part and were just focused on the bible study.

To add to that, God killed way more people than a micro redirect ever could. He would make Hitler and Stalin look like boy scouts with peashooters. Even the Chicxulub impact event pales in comparison.

I can't speak for others, but my issue isn't that I think the citations hold any authority, but rather the intent behind them.  This is a website about climbing and a forum about trad climbing.  I don't really have a problem with people talking about god or even proselytizing, but I do have a problem with it happening here.  Especially in a thread that's ostensibly about rock climbing technique.  Had the post been in the general or politics forum and been titled 'lets talk about how Jesus is the one true path,' that would be fine.

That's exactly my point.  No "bad idea" on MP ever goes away with a quick dismissal unless there's something else to meaninglessly banter about.  ....and even you quickly got back to the "God" debate.

Since the OP either forgot or doesn't know that any anchor needs to be secure enough and strong enough to hold any rock climbing generated force from any direction, the rest of his comments or suggestions to solve the supposed problem are irrelevant, hence an easy, quick dismissal.

Sure. But untying and throwing the rope down to your partner so they can bail is probably their best option...

This got me thinking, any  climbing advice in the 'Good Book'?

I think Psalm137:9 might be recommending taking small children highball bouldering.

Isn’t it common practice to use active progress captures while simul climbing...

so what’s the issue here...

Also if one feels entitled to express their disdain for The Truth why would there be any issue with someone Standing Up for The Truth

JESUS said to him “I AM The WAY, The TRUTH and The LIFE. No one comes to The FATHER except through ME.”

Everyone should Stand and Live for The TRUTH with no regard to backlash

Galatians 1:10, Matthew 10:32

Someone asked about Scripture that pertains to Anchors

I Like this one

the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on The Rock

I am Very Confident in my Anchor

Matthew 7:25

Colin, its about time and place. If someone walked into your church and started shouting about climbing you wouldn't be surprised if they got asked to pipe down. Trying to use a climbing forum to proselytise is bad form so you got to expect some ribbing. Frankly I think you got off lightly!

Galatians 1:10

I’m still trying to figure out why all these people are Hyming and hawing about the microtrax...

Here’s the thing...

I don’t recall asking for anyone’s approval, in Fact I can assure you that I’m not after anyone’s approval so if someone doesn’t like that I name The Name of CHRIST, first I’d encourage them to examine why... then if they still insist on voicing their disapproval I see it as appropriate to encourage them to “keep it to yourself”

I’m a Follower of JESUS CHRIST

I’m not ashamed and I’m not going to hide neither should anyone else
I’m going to let my Light Shine

have a Great day and GOD Bless,

Romans 1:20

Perhaps go climbing and look around, think just about all the different kinds of birds... the different types of plants... can’t tell me all that came from a sponge

We could get into law but I don’t see it as necessary... Ultimately your completely in the wrong to try to create a culture where anyone can’t Freely mention The Name of CHRIST

Acts 4:19-20

Enjoy your day and GOD Bless,

Colin McCurdy

So let your Light Shine
