Does anyone have any beta on where I can pick up some rivet hangers in person around yosemite valley or on the way there from the bay area? I've been going through my gear and realized I don't have enough rivet hangers to get up a route I'm thinking about climbing in a few days.

They usually have them at the mountain shop in the valley

Would try Golden Chains in Jamestown - hit up Hayden/Jordan and see if they can fix you up.

Yup the Mountain Shop in Curry Village always has some of the Moses rivet hangers both in loop and cinch. If you're heading up today or next weekend I can loan you as many as you need as I'm in Oakland so should be on your way out of SF.

What route are you looking at?

never had a problem with nuts on rivets if you can't find proper ones. never had a need for more than 2 but maybe some people leave them as pro?

Thank you for the kind offer Kevin! I currently really only have nuts to use as rivet hangers right now, so I really probably should buy a few for myself though :d

My main plan is to climb SFWC, but if anyone is on it or if I manage to climb it fast and have extra time, then I plan to climb Skull Queen, which is what I need the rivet hangers for since I've heard nuts are too fat for the rivet ladders on that route. I am unfortunately still a bit of a punter, so I'm not quite prepared to hop on any of the routes with mega long rivet ladders.

I am actually thinking about climbing some of the routes you put up though. I'm planning on climbing Resist in May and was also looking at Direct Action, but the topo has a pitch labeled A4 (despite the route being labeled as A2+ in Erik Sloans 2020 guidebook) and I am not prepared to climb a pitch that hard.

I thought you might be talking about Skull Queen. The river ladder on that route are all bomber phat buttonhead bolts with every 3rd or so having a hanger for a draw so all you'll need are 2 rivet hanger loops that you'll attach to the top of your aiders and leapfrog between bolts with hangers. Additionally, nuts are not too phat for the rivet ladder. There's a few more rivets throughout the route but none of them require a thin rivet hanger so a nut would work fine. (Granted, using nut sucks because you lose a lot of reach vs a rivet hanger)

Yes, Erik messed up the grade of the route in the title of the topo when his copyeditor copy-pasted the title from Resist! To match the formatting without changing the grade. My hope is that people will review the pitches for Direct Action to see that there's multiple pitches with a harder than A2+ grade. Resist! Is A2+ though but it does require that you're comfortable with thin nailing for it to feel like its grade. If you're new to nailing beaks it will feel significantly harder than A2+ (kinda like the C2+ on the early pitches of West face of leaning tower which is prob why Erik increased the rating to C3)

Feel free to hit me up before you head up to Resist! if you'd like beta or some comparable nailing pitches for the thin stuff

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
