For those with wide feet looking for a TC pro alternative...

Go with the Evolv Generals! For some reason, I never really loved TC pros - maybe it's the shape of my feet, or just a general thing with the fit, but they never really felt that amazing to me for anything but climbing crack. I picked up a pair of Generals a while ago and I can't imagine ever going back to TC's. The rubber on them seems to have a short break in period, but after that it's some of my favorite rubber I've used; it smears surprisingly well for something that is simultaneously so good at edging. When I used TC pros, I sometimes felt that my foot would kind of slide off the back of small edges, but the slight downturn of the generals really helps to hook in on those edges. I will say - depending on what you climb, they aren't always perfect. Jamming cracks that are .75 or smaller is pretty damn painful if not impossible at times. But, if you're like me and just trying to feel comfortable and confident in your shoes on pretty moderate routes, then these are definitely the ones I'd recommend. |

Ooh 8.5EEEE foot here. I wear 43 in TC pros. I’ve heard to size up on the generals. (So 44 in Generals for me) Is that your experience? |

Steven Leewrote: Yeah, at the very least don’t size down in them. So whatever your street shoe size is, I think half a size up or a full size up is about appropriate. |

Chronically Injuredwrote: Totally agree. The Generals are a great shoe. I loved my TCs (gen 1, and they fit my feet well), but they stretched significantly and the rubber eventually delaminated from the leather. The Generals have not stretched nearly as much, which I expect is because they are synthetic and have lasted much longer than my TCs did. The Generals only downside IMO is that the TRAX rubber on them isn't super sticky, but honestly it lasts much longer than c4 or Vibram, so its a plus too. The Generals really shine on offwidth and cracks wider than #0.75 because of how stiff they are. I remember when I first got mine it felt like I was wearing bricks on my feet because of how stiff they are, which took a lot of getting used to. Their stiffness makes offwidth heal-toe bridging a breeze. They offer considerable comfort during crack climbing (because of the stiff sole) and more toe padding/protection because of the added rubber on top of the toe. The Generals downsides IMO are climbing on polished rock, overhangs, and smearing. But they can edge on small crystals and microcrimps because of how stiff they are so they can be good at slab climbing. |

Re: finger cracks, mine did pretty well on Swedin-Ringle! When resoled with Stealth, they are always in my quiver off three with tight K-laces and comfy Stealth-resoled Katakis. |

I was at evolv not long ago and they mentioned the generals are discontinued! |
