The post limits here help a lot, IMO.  It should be a 3 post limit to the entire forum and apply the same to everyone no matter your posting history.

Beyond that, it’s not that the moderating is awful or unfair - just clueless - internet forum noobs with executive power.

Supertopo - has anyone filed a freedom of information request to find out who sued C-Mac?  That really needs to come out at some point.

Hey since I love shopping so much can you tell your good friend at Prana to make clothes in my size? Like 23x31 pants? It’s so hard to not be able to spend money on Prana because of my body size

Never climbed at vedauwoo, Sarah. I spent a fair amount of time in Yosemite tho, and what I learned about off widths there is to avoid them or lie back them if possible. 

And as to prana - I might have some pull, even tho he sold it to Columbia a few years ago. Must be nice to be able to get your knee into a 4” crack!

Are 40% of vedauwoo off size climbers really grrrls now?! Dang! Russ must be loving that.

Quite nice, I particularly enjoyed flashing Umph slot this summer. Not quite 40% yet at the Voo, but the women who are climbing offwidths are on the rise. Lol let me know if you get an in with prana- skinny girls need climbing pants too. Why Supertopo was better:

Only real climbers and a few random clowns knew about it.  Obscure location.

Stacked with famous climbers.

Virtually no moderation the first ten years.  Then had to block boobs because out of control.

What did get out of control, you just ignored.

A place where real climbers around the country/world could just chat the way we do around a crag or campfire. We rarely talked about climbing but we talked about everything else with climbing peers.  This more than anything made it a valuable media.  I made many dear friends there. 

Historical Note:  It was a literary masterpiece.  A completely new form of written communication.  Instead of news being "written' by journalists it was pouring out first hand from those who were there. A compilation of the "best-of" would be an first hand encyclopedia of rock climbing history. When news broke it broke first on Supertopo.  Major news outlets frequently went there as a source.

Why it died:  I don't know the story but I'm guessing there was too much blowback on the host.  Users complaining about other users threatening them, etc.  If you have a wild party and the guests are threating to call the cops on other guests, over and over, you get sick of it and shut the party down.  Plus I think Chris Mac was ready for the next phase in his life and the cost of running this non-profit venture was too high and unnecessarily risky to him personally.

You’re not requesting information from a private company.  This was a civil suit.  These are court records filed in WY where ST’s LLC was registered - public information.

Spider Savage: Why it died:  I don't know the story

The story is well known - someone sued Chris for photos appearing on the forum that were likely fair use and he decided to delete all photos and shutter it rather than respond.  If the same standard were asserted here, it would be a disaster.

It is a shame, as Roy McClenahan put together some of the best illustrated and researched threads. He went to a lot of trouble to archive them, too, after the fact. i posted a few illustrated Halloween stories, but they wiped all of my content after I got banned for complaining. Someone should have culled all of that good climbing stuff for a book.

There were rumors that nobody sued C-Mac.
At least he rejected an offer to help with litigation.

Gotta say, a three post or whatever it is limit ain’t bad. Three’s too many for most, I mean, look no further than my shit posts. Most folks just reiterate the same point they made in the previous post like they’re trying to find the volume knob.
