We were a little late on hearing about this, but there's still time to comment.  Comment ends Dec 3rd.

Not to be confused with the Calico Basin Ramp.

This area includes Dreamland, Test Site, Area 51, and roughly ~70 published rock climbs.  Access has historically been difficult and ever changing.

This is the early stage in their planning process, and we'd like them to ensure climbing is listed in the recreation opportunities in the area so that we can be a part of the planning conversation to protect the area and maintain access.

Thanks for the heads up.  The BLM assistant manager appears to be on the warpath and won't be happy until everything is fee'd.

Yeah, some mixed messaging -- in their news release, they said they are accepting through Dec 3rd:

https://www.southernnevadaclimberscoalition.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/BLM-to-hold-public-information-forum-on-Harris-Springs-recreation.pdf

"The information forum will be held online on November 10, 2021, from 6 to 8 p.m. Pacific Time. Registration
for the forum, and more information on the area, is available at virtualpublicmeeting.com/ha…. Those unable to attend the meeting, or wish to
 provide comments later, may email BLM_NV_SNDO_RR_HarrisSpringRamp@blm.gov until December 3, 2021, at 4:30 p.m. "

We will ask the BLM on our call tomorrow to clarify.

Comments are accepted through Dec 3rd.

Also, although not included in the initial information gathering and project overview covered at https://www.virtualpublicmeeting.com/harrisspringsramp-home,  climbing will be among the list of recreational uses for the area.

Comments are open for the draft of the Harris Springs Recreation Area Management Plan, Through 2/18.  Public virtua meeting is 2/1 @ 6PM.

We've tried to condense some information here:

“There has been an exponential growth in activities in the area that have created disturbances causing damages
to the natural resources that need to be addressed,” said Josh Travers, Red Rock/Sloan Field Office Assistant
Manager. “This plan addresses recreational uses, designated and unauthorized roads, vegetation rehabilitation
and informational kiosks and signage.”

Funny, that's the same thing they said about Calico after they made the loop road a pain with the reservation fee.  Writing on the wall here.  With Calico going the way of the Loop Road, of course this will happen next.  Hopefully we can nip this in the bud.

This clown (our local climbing celeb) just can't help himself.

Its an open secret that Josh Travers dislikes climbers, and was very upset by the FOIA inquiries elicited by his proposed RAMPS for our southern Nevada public lands. Not sure who is his superior, but perhaps we can appeal to him/her. Maybe even go above them and write/call Deb Haaland.

Let's do it.  I know the mountain biking community is getting poised for a legal battle over the Calico stuff.

The whole of BLM Red Rock has been incredibly engaged and proactively working to improve the relationship with climbers in southern Nevada recently.  It's their job to be good land managers of our public lands, and it's our job to be good stewards.  Please don't actively work against that -- personal attacks and accusations aren't the way.

When you have the worlds most famous and influential climber count himself as a local, and spraying about climbing areas that are potentially subject to an access-limiting RAMP, then it must be called out.  This is not behavior befitting a true steward of our wild places. Your continued sycophancy of this individual is NOT the way.  As for Mr. Travers: Do we have to continue to stroke the infant in order to get what we want? Me voicing my concerns with folks in power, on this forum, will not undermine any any attempt at diplomacy.  I have spoken to this individual a handful of times directly via phone, and he has made his stance, (and his disdain for "us") quite clear.

SNCC has left the climbers empty handed as the organization stood down and did nothing in the face of the Calico Basin toll booth plan. World famous rock climber is a resident of Calico Basin with his wife and they are besties with certain members of the board of SNCC. That's why the interest of Calico residents became the party line with the SNCC.

When we had a chance to have a voice with the BLM, the only thing SNCC did for us was hold a self-serving fundraiser featuring world famous rock climber giving a slide show for the peons. This was a clear conflict of interest as members of the board will get juiced in, with guest list access into Calico because they are in with the upper echelon residents.

The parent organization of SNCC, the Access Fund, with their paid staff of policy analysts have been completely USELESS in this regard. In fact, the only thing Access Fund did during the BLM commenting period was to run a publicity campaign about how climbers have to suck it up and learn to love this new loss of access. What's baffling to me is to think of where the money really goes when donations are made to Access Fund.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
