Hey guys, I’m totally new to this sport! I currently have a chalk bag and neutral climbing shoes. I have done some bouldering outside and inside and am seeking to adventure to more extensive rock climbing routes.

I’m wondering if anyone has used gear that you would be willing to part with. Or knowledge of beginner routes in the Midwest. Thanks guys

Quite the unique request! Whats the Midwest again? I feel like everyone defines it differently.

I'm going to guess the region around Hollister MO.

Guessing this post gets a lot of viewers who click on it expecting OP is giving away free gear!

What size shoe are you? And I have a buddy from MO that seemed to make it work before migrating to CO. This website should have all the info you need.

The first thread on Mountain Project is perfect for finding old gear people are giving away for free, you may just have to pay for shipping but plenty of people give away old shoes, belay devices, harnesses etc, just be careful of buying used safety gear.

Peach says that if you'd just undo this pesky latch for her, she'd be more than happy to ship you a Misty Mountain Cadillac, a GriGri 3, a roundstock Petzl Attache, and a set of Black Diamond Camalot C3's (racked once, no falls).

Why not?The forum title literally says “for free”, and he didn’t post on the gear give away thread. If someone wants to pass on unused gear and keep it out of the landfill, why not.

Greg, I'm not a mod (yet!), but I believe that the goal is to minimize the space taken up by people who are not offering something (for free or otherwise). We want to be a community of givers, not beggars. Exceptions seem to be made only when there is an altruistic aim (shoes for the less fortunate/economically disadvantaged). Idk, that's just my two cents. Merry Christmas, y'all! May you all receive nwt purple and grey C3's and a double rack of OP Link Cams from Santa.

Christmas bump for a local brother

Looks like Horseshoe Cannon Ranch, Sam's Throne, Jackson Falls, The Red, The Obed or anywhere else in TN is your best bet. Moderates galore. HCR would be a hell of a time for a brand new climber.

Hey Eli!!!

I thought this would be a thread with gear for free climbing.

Greg misunderstood Konnor’s (have you had a talk with your parents about that name?) first post in the thread. Konnor (again, really man?) then misunderstood Greg’s reply. And nobody in this thread is giving away shit for free.

Merry Christmas, you beautiful people.

My first take was that the OP already has some free climbing gear and would like to acquire more. However, closer scrutiny revealed that he mentioned a chalk bag, which confirms that he has already started down the dark path to aid climbing.

Marc, have you talked to your parents about them putting Rock Empire cams in your stocking this year? Surely on the Front Range that constitutes child abuse. ;-) j/k

Marc, I actually did, but they hit me with the no-takebacksies so I'm just cucked for the rest of my life. They did have the presence of mind to not give me a K middle name, so that was pretty cool of them.
