Because aid climbing, my friend...is neither.

I dont think it works like that. Its funny with sport climbing because it can be neither "sport" nor "climbing" . Aid climbing is certainly "aid" even if you want to argue the merits of calling it "climbing" . YGD

Holy frig!

Evidently I owe someone on Mountain Project a beer, or rather a bunch of beers!  I got a slew of book orders late last week and had to make a special trip to the post office.

Apparently someone had been talking up our book Hooking Up on Mountain Project, so whoever it was, HUGE THANKS!!!

On my way to El Cap for different route #64 - kinda scared, wish us luck. And someone let me know who I owe beers to!  Book sales have completely funded all my trips of late.

Cheers  eh?

I'm a busy guy- we're all busy, so I might not like Pete much these days. I've never met him- experienced climber for sure- but my productivity certainly doesn't like him. Got Hooking Up about a week ago and I can unequivocally state that if you have any project, any time-sensitive task, DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK- you're doomed. On the other hand, if you're a washed up ex-crappy climber looking for kicks in a sport you'll likely never find the time to be any good at, but YOU NEED TO KNOW EVERYTHING, then YOU MUST BUY THIS BOOK. In 1982, I bought Doug Scott's legendary Big Wall Climbing. No joke, I've had as much fun with Hooking Up, except now I actually have a serious job, so as I said, I might not like Pete.

This book has way too much information in it. It’s amazing and overwhelming both. Thanks Pete for putting it together.

Pete, maybe you can publish a “Cliff Notes” version?

Just skip all the European stuff.

Pete,

Is there more than one edition? Amazon has an "English" edition--is that because it's written in English or because there are UK and US editions?

^  Same book in English, but sold through Amazon in Europe. Cheaper for Euros cuz of shipping. Merricans and Hosers can get it cheapest thru me.

Got a copy from my wife for Christmas last year.
Im sure it would make a great coffee table book, but I've read it to the point that the covers are held on with Gorilla tape (out of respect).

Entertaining to read for sure and the info that I've used to aid solo locally has dramatically improved my trad and my ability to self rescue.
Planning on taking the info to the aid walls in Index this summer and hopefully California once I've got my systems reasonably dialed.

Would definitely recommend.

If it's a route I hope it's C1.

You must join The Club and solo a Grade VI big wall by legit means.

The Nose is C1.  ;)   Lurking Fear as well I think.

Well if none of my buddies get around to learning this thing with me I’m certainly not bringing them along when I finally make it to the fun part.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
