Colorado Ice Conditions 2021-2022
|
I noticed that temps in the park are starting to get down to freezing. I chatted with a climber a few weeks ago while hiking out who said one of the couloirs (perhaps near Sky Pond?) was in perfect condition. Also, anyone have a recommendation for entry-level mixed routes that might be viable early season? I was thinking that the Keyhole on Longs might be interesting with some snow and ice on it. Maybe the Loft? |

The adventurous may find something out there to scratch up. Afraid I have no entry level suggestions |

With the snow hitting the mountains yesterday, it's time to start dreaming of beautiful frozen waterfalls. Has anyone found anything yet? |
|
Anyone have updates on any early season ice? |
|
First rule of early season ice, you don't talk about early season ice. |

I thought I’d get a response like that, but figured it was worth a try. I’m new to CO so not familiar with what gets in early. |
|
I’ve seen some photos indicating there is some ice but I’ve also taken my tools on three walks in the last two weeks for no ice |

Hope you guys are ready to get up early and take a long walk. Glen Frank and i climbed Alexanders on Longs Oct 17th, 2021. Pitch 1 - no ice as normal leaving the lambslide Pitch 2 - best ice we have seen on it in a few years, we set numerous screws Pitch 3 - snow and ice all the way to the chimney Pitch 4 - chimney has ice to the dihedral, again good screws set Pitch 4 - Chimney Exit, super good conditions Pitch 5 - Bonus pitch, ice ramp is in! Pitch 5 - again, screws set on the 5th, most time that is NOT the case |

Has anyone had eyes on the black lake ice flows recently? Curious what shape AMU, west gully, or the slabs might be in. |

Not really Ice climbing but worth a note the couloir climbing has been really good so far this year Y left branch this weekend Oct 31. One more big snow storm and the avy conditions are too sketchy and we will have to wait tell spring.

Summit Ice: 3 Tiers in but thin. Round corner no ice but little flow to the right is in. Fish out of Water looks great. East Vail is primed wet walls, waiting for the temp change. |

Went up the Flying Dutchman yesterday. The snow is perfect. The ice,....not so much. Regardless, a very fun outing with some solid low angle drytooling left of the 'crux' pitch. Feel welcome to hit me up for more beta if interested. Lamb's Slide-Broadway-Notch-Staircase is big fun as well! Happy hunting! |
