Just wondering what opinions you have about using an HECC certified hockey helmet for rock climbing. May sound a little goofy but I'm thinking it could be a temporary solution while I save up for a legitamate climbing helmit. I'm slowly getting into trad and don't really have enough saved up to buy everything in one go. I grew up playing hockey so have tons of old helmets lying around. They are definitely way more robust than a cycling hemet and offer protection on all sides (I'd probably remove the face cage though haha).
Go with the face shield instead of the full birdcage, helps keep chalk out of your eyes while belaying and pieces from hitting you in the face while bounce testing aid placements, but still allows you to briefly grip the rope with your mouth while making high clips
