MP is Mostly Trolls!

For some reason, most mountain project users fail to recognize themselves as trolls.  First, most mountain project users have no interest in actual discussion however they love starting flame wars. A perfect example of this is the 15c thread, I was really the only actual opinion other than JCM; most posters are too afraid to express their opinion or provide any actual insight. There are multiple threads where people are confronted with objective facts and totally ignore them.

Second, almost everyone I have met who has a dissenting view of me online seems quite mum on chatting. Online they are quite happy to strongly express their distaste yet in person they won't express their dissatisfaction. This is kinda of the definition of a troll, willing to say stuff online yet afraid to in person. If anyone does wanna flame on me please give me a call (360477eighteight59) because flaming in this thread will get taken down. You are a troll if you can only say stuff online. Then contrast that with everyone I meet in person who agrees with me, they tell me I havent posted enough!

Third, rather than encourage discussion anytime someone has a chance to flex/inflate their own ego they take it rather than provide detailed explanation. Examples of this are pretty pervasive. New climbers say something like, "why is the bolt there?" The typical mountain project user, "THE FA IS ALWAYS RIGHT." Mountain project should actually say something like, " There is a large ledge and falling there the bolt would pull you away from it."

Forth, if you are not a troll chill out. Your FA, Redpoint, Onsight, rack, experience, the "world class" destinations you have been to are totally meaningless.

Fifth, I don't care if MP is mostly trolls. I care if people try to say they are not a troll when they clearly are. Discuss!

Clearly you don’t know what a troll is.

Trolling is making (usually inflammatory) statements regardless of belief in order to provoke an emotional response.

Your post comes close but it may be sincere.

Also, the internet is mostly trolls if you count volume of content but less so by quantity of users. The internet (and MP) is mostly lurkers. You are part of a vocal minority.

Gen Z would know how to use just one post for the pic and the text begging for a pat on the head instead of using two seperate posts.

Nobody is under any obligation to chat with you outside of Mountain Project. And that doesn't make them a troll. I don't want you to have my phone number or my personal e-mail address.

Fine most mountain project posters are trolls? Is that better?

I am as much of a Troll as FrankPS.

This should be in the phallic photo thread but I will allow it!

The first troll post appears! I didn't say you are obligated to interact with me (this is where you deliberately misread my post to achieve your own agenda). However if you are willing to start a flame war on the internet you are a troll by definition! As long as you don't start a flame war then your not a troll and have no obligation.

Good point honestly Frank. I'm on the side of caution when it comes to sharing personal info with people named Princess puppy lover, especially when they claim to climb with people named Chode rider.

And BTW getting flamed and getting trolled are two different things completely. Getting flamed is something one usually brings on themselves by say/doing stupid crap all the time. Getting trolled happens to anyone.

Quoting for history.

Also, since you seem to have ignored the correction of your misinterpretation of the definition of troll, once again:

From: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_troll

In internet slang, a troll is a person who posts inflammatory, insincere, digressive, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as social media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.), a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog), with the intent of provoking readers into displaying emotional responses, or manipulating others' perception. This is typically for the troll's amusement, or to achieve a specific result such as disrupting a rival's online activities or manipulating a political process. Even so, Internet trolling can also be defined as purposefully causing confusion or harm to other users online, for no reason at all.

And since many of your threads are indeed the definition of trolling:

Researcher Ben Radford wrote about the phenomenon of clowns in history and the modern day in his book Bad Clowns, and found that "bad clowns" have evolved into Internet trolls.[63] They do not dress up as traditional clowns but, for their own amusement, they tease and exploit "human foibles" in order to speak the "truth" and gain a reaction.[63] Like clowns in make-up, Internet trolls hide behind "anonymous accounts and fake usernames".[63] In their eyes, they are the trickster and are performing for a nameless audience via the Internet.[63] Studies conducted in the fields of human–computer interaction and cyberpsychology by other researchers have corroborated Radford's analysis on the phenomenon of Internet trolling as a form of deception-serving entertainment and its correlations to aggressive behaviour, katagelasticism, black humor, and the Dark tetrad.[19][20][21]

Trolling correlates positively with sadism,[20][21][22][23] trait psychopathy,[20][21][22][23] and Machiavellianism[64] (see Dark triad). Trolls take pleasure from causing pain and emotional suffering.[20][22][23] Their ability to upset or harm gives them a feeling of power.[64] Psychological researches conducted in the fields of personality psychology and cyberpsychology report that trolling behaviour qualifies as an anti-social behaviour and is strongly correlated to sadistic personality disorder (SPD).[20][22][23] Researches have shown that men, compared with women, are more likely to perpetrate trolling behaviour; these gender differences in online anti-social behaviour may be a reflection of gender stereotypes, where agentic characteristics such as competitiveness and dominance are encouraged in men.[23] The results corroborated that gender (male) is a significant predictor of trolling behaviour, alongside trait psychopathy and sadism to be significant positive predictors.[23] Moreover, these studies have shown that people who enjoy trolling online tend to also enjoy hurting other people in everyday life, therefore corroborating a longstanding and persistent pattern of psychopathological sadism.[22]

Well I know who I am not taking to bowling or go carting some people don't know how to have fun.... Also for future reference it is more concise to say you are afraid to interact with puppy lover or chode rider.

Well I think encouraging people to flame is bad form and insidious but I will ignore that. The issue with your definition is that if we have two parties that think they are correct then it is excusable for them to flame, when instead the better argument should win. Instead you are saying if you don't like someone it doesn't matter if they are right or wrong, they deserve to be flamed...instead you could argue how mountain project isn't filled with trolls and provide examples that seems far more civil.

Um you kinda contradict this in your next quote:

Like clowns in make-up, Internet trolls hide behind "anonymous accounts and fake usernames".

Then your definition claims trolls cause pain, suffering or harm. Can you provide an example where I did any of those things?

Trolls take pleasure from causing pain and emotional suffering.[20][22][23] Their ability to upset or harm gives them a feeling of power.

If anything with your definition I am the opposite of a troll, I have had like three comments ever removed from MP, in fact please find a single post where I am being mean. Also I have repeatedly given MP users the opportunity to talk to me and figureout for themselves whether my opinions are genuine or not yet no one has taken me up on that offer...

Edit: Mark I am confused can you go sentence by sentence pointing to examples of how I meet the criteria. Because I am not anonymous. I haven't harmed anyone so you are confusing me.

Reading comprehension much? If you don't like the definition, take it up with Wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_troll
