I have a Chouinard North Wall hammer with a fiberglass handle 55 cm in length.

Does anyone know someone who can shorten this to either a 45 or 50 cm length?

Since this is a collectable, I would prefer someone experienced.

1. Don't shorten it if its a collectable.  Just buy a new hammer to use for your project and keep this one on the wall.

2. Just use a hand held grinder and use an appropriate cutting wheel:

Years ago I had one of my blue fiberglass tools shortened. Unfortunately I can not remember the name of guy who did it - he was their lead shop machinist originally for Chouinard then BD. He has long since retired. I remember talking to him about it as he got a kick out seeing one of the early blue fiberglass tools.

As said, above just find a newer version of what you want/need. The cost for a machinist to do the work is going to cost more.

You might be able to do it yourself.  I've shortened carbon fiber canoe paddles with no problem.  If it's epoxied on, which it looks like (I have a pair), knock the pin out and heat it up with a heat gun.  Cut it down to size with a hacksaw, re-drill the pin hole, epoxy it back and re-pin it.  Personally, I wouldn't do it--55cm is a good size for what it's intended for, and I'd guess there are lots of more functional shorter tools out there.  Of course they're not Chouinards......

Mine are the original forged Interalp/Camp heads.  They have a nicely tapered ferrule which I think the later ones don't have.  It'd be a pain in the butt to get a nice fit there.  Like I said, I wouldn't do it.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
