Any beta for Enchantments online "walk-up permits"? 2021
|
|
Hey Guys! As many of you know, the Leavenworth ranger station stopped doing the normal walk-up permits for the enchantments in 2020 due to COVID, and have since extended this to 2021. All the walk-up permits for the week are released at a random time on Sunday and can be grabbed by anybody on the website. My climbing partner and I have been thwarted both last summer and this summer by this system- Even when we set alarms every 10 minutes from 5am to noon, we got dunked on as they were released between out 10 minute alarms and got reserved super fast. Was wondering if anybody on here had any additional beta/ had any luck using other methods. Thanks! |

It’s a terrible system because it virtually guarantees that the permits go to people with bots. Write to the Leavenworth rangers and tell them that it’s inequitable and not cool. |

Quinn Rohlfwrote: Good insight, thanks for the response! This makes a lot of sense. I'll certainly be writing to them. |

I saw eight mile permits available Sunday when I checked. Went all the way to the last screen but I didn’t want to go up there. For what it’s worth. I know some folks who’ve scored permits on the Sunday system, but I agree I bet bots swoop up the majority of them. |

I was able to get an Enchantments core zone permit recently through the new system. Here is what I figured out: - Permits release into the system around 8:55 AM on Sunday. I think the bigger limiting factor is number of persons rather than number of permits, so if people reserve permits with large groups this will empty out the available permits - Entry dates are almost all for the following Monday, but you can put your exit date quite far out - In practice, this means that you have flexibility with your trip dates but you will end up paying more for your permit if you don't want to depart on the Monday after you get the permit, since you'll pay for days you won't use |

William Kwrote: This is great beta! Thank you! |

William Kwrote: For what it's worth, the website states, "You must enter the permit area only on the entry date shown on your permit or it is not valid." I'm not sure if this is enforced or how often it is enforced. I have been to the enchantments twice, one time I did not have a permit checked.. the other time a ranger on trail asked to see our permit. Do with that information what you will but know that you run the risk of getting booted if you enter on a different date than what is on your permit. |

H Luewrote: Let's say you enter 1-2 days after your permit entry date. How would they know? If asked, could you just say that you've been there for the past X days and never run into a ranger? And if they saw you near the trailhead, maybe you could just say you hiked out because you forgot something or whatever and are heading back in? |

drew Awrote: If you ran into a ranger somewhere in the core zone or near your camp wherever your zone was you’re right, I’m not sure they would be able to tell.. But if you ran into one near the trailhead… I imagine the rangers are not stupid and would be able to tell whether you are hiking in for the first time or if you truly forgot something simply based on how much you were carrying.. “Oh you packed up your tent and decided to carry it with you back to your car to grab bug spray? Right.” |

H Luewrote: Good point. Since nearly all the entry dates I have seen in this permit system are for Mondays, this would be pretty limiting. This rule seems like it might be intended also to prevent having people entering and exiting multiple times on the same permit, which I can easily understand. |

Thwarted yet again :( feelin #defeated. I think we're just gonna write a letter to the ranger station and drop it off then leave town honestly. Tough system, hope they switch it back to one that's more fair for everyone in the near future. Thanks again for the great beta everyone, we appreciate it. |

Seeing the following availability @ 10:15am. Not seeing these instantly snapped up by bots. Looks like lots of people competing for a limited resource. Also note that people have 15 minutes to fully book, so it looks like dates are timing out and going up for grabs again. |
