Looking to pick up a red drill. Would the fuel 1" or 1 1/8" be enough for drilling bolts?

What does the person teaching you recommend?

Either would be great.

I have put a lot of use on the 1" version. 2712. I like it for rap bolting, kinda heavy for ground up.

1in is good, any bigger is over kill. The 12v 5/8 is nice and light but battery doesn't last as long and it's a little slow to drill.

This is the one we use to drill though basement walls to install sprinklers. We run a 1 inch bit on it, which is way thicker than any you would use to put in bolts of course. You can get some beefy batteries for it, too.

Why are you set on Milwaukee? Could you borrow a drills from other folks and see what you like or what they recommend?

Milwaukee is professional.

I’m assuming you want Milwaukee because you own other Milwaukee tools and already have the battery/charging stuff set up for it, which is why I got Milwaukee. Will back up Bobby’s recommendation for the 1” M18, though definitely go M12 if you plan on doing a lot of bolting on lead instead. With the brushless M18 I can get probably 20+ 3/8”x4” holes in granite on a 6aH battery.

I have the M12 5/8th for little projects and its perfect for that.  For rap bolting rigs, I would get the M18 FUEL 1" (2712-20) for those projects.  Can't go wrong there. i.e. that's my next drill.

I have a Bosch 18v for big work and an m12 for small. I use the m12 much more often and can get 12+ holes per 6amp battery, it is slower but more versitile. Unless your bolting hundreds of routes or doing a lot of retro work the m12 is perfect. The rock took millions of years to form so 45 seconds vs 30 for a bolt seems ok.

My bud has a lot of the 1's, I didn't really know what I was doing and bought the 1-1/8" because it wasn't much more expensive. He's used mine a couple times and liked using it because he says it's quieter and has a little more umph. ymmv.

For the record, I also have the m18 chain saw, impact driver, blower, and my friend has the angle grinder, mini blower (dope for cleaning pockets), and others. Nice to be able to haul up one or two batteries and use them for bolting, cleaning, cutting out deadfall, etc.

At Christmas they run a buy a 12ah battery and get an 8ah battery for free deal at home depot which is a steal. Can put in tons of bolts with the 8 but the 12 will get your multiple routes in the stone here.

Pretty much what Tal and Alexander said, it's the tool system I already use. Drilled some concrete with a coworkers 2912 and thought it was a decent weight with the high output battery.

I do wish I had bought a makita 18v system rather than the m12. I love the tool line generally but the makita 18v drill is nearly as  light as my m12 but has longer life and feels more powerful generally.

The M12 blower comes out next month, so that's helpful.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
