Without context, there is nothing to debate. As usual, it depends. Generally speaking, gates out, generally speaking, away from the direction of the leader, generally speaking gates opposed when using two.  On your harness, gates out are easier when unclipping with same side hand, but easier when unclipping opposite side if gates are in, nearly impossible if gate is out. 

Are ya all debating whether we should throw Bill Gates out of the country for putting microchips in our vaccines? I say Gates out!

You get almost 2 inches more reach to clip a bolt & no hand position switch when going gates in. Interestingly enough from what I’ve seen all French, Spanish, English, & Italian climbers seem to go gate in but all the German climbers go gate out. 

Gate direction doesn't matter when you rack off your tie in point. KISS
