I especially don‘t like it when dogs aren’t allowed at a crag and everyone brings them anyway.

Been there and done that, definitely guilty but mostly over leash laws. Its tough to care for a dog properly when you are young and renting, either you piss off an occasional climber or you piss off your neighbors and landlord. I personally took it out on the occasional climber cause I dont shit where I sleep.

Yah, maybe if you can't 'care for a dog properly' you shouldn't have a dog.

Sounds like you can‘t handle the responsibility of having a pet.  If your bringing them to a crag where the landowner prohibits them, I don‘t give a shit what your reasoning is.

I didn’t think we’d get serious competition to ‘given enough leeway and opportunity the dogs will be chill,’ but I have to admit that ‘tough to care for a dog properly when you’re young and renting’ is right up there.

This, unfortunately. I have usually had a personal policy of steering clear of other folks pups at the crag. i don't know the dogs temperament or the owners attitude and its just a safest approach. But this past weekend at the New was a first for me. I was walking around scoping the wall and saw a dog tied so I began giving it berth as I passed. Owner insisted it was friendly and it ran over, long enough of a leash, jumped up, and just bit my arm. Didn't break the skin but it held on until the owner pried it off. This dog continued freaking out every time a group walked by but the owners insisted on telling everyone excuses. I can tolerate sounds but that sucks. And I blame the owners, not the animal. Maybe as climbing gets more popular and walls get busier, climbing managers, clubs, etc. create a policy or stance? I don't know the answer. But being a crappy owner spoils it.

Like I said upthread, the fact that this dog was on a leash and then bit you says a lot. The animal (and its owners, but that's another story) should not be at a crag at all, leashed or otherwise.

Telling folks your dog is "friendly" at the crag is like telling your partner "you got it!" as he sketchily enters the crux of his project for the 20th time; you're trying to provide shaky reassurance in the face of evidence indicating the exact opposite. I will never tell someone "she's friendly" about my dog unless they've asked.

Until the owner of the two unleashed dogs that ate my lunch a couple of years ago right out of my backpack apologizes to me, dogs are banned at all crags.
