Gee, I can’t believe no one has thought of or proposed that yet.

That sounds quite demanding.

How about, no.

Sounds good to me.

Fewer trolls, more responsibility.

There are lots of good reasons for using an alias on MP, Jamila's case being a great example.  I have my own reasons for using an alias that involve potential work-related issues, and it's not hard to imagine other concerns.  Forcing real names is a bad idea.

Besides, there are plenty of people here who use their real names and still act like asshats...

How would you verify someone's "real" name when they open an MP account?

The short answer is...you won't.

Lol OP  is using an alias for his username.

You can already do this. Click the alias user name. Click Ignore User. Done.

Display the real name of MP user. Or
make the real names available on request.

Thanks

Greg Collins

Any particular aliases we should watch out for?

Parler had a solution for this... and then were so bad at network security that they accidentally doxxed a significant fraction of their user base.

Photographs of government IDs can be a pretty good method, but you have to take PII security seriously.

Honestly, as long as mountain project doesn't let me pick and choose who even knows I'm active on here, I will keep using a pseudonym and other precautions.

Some people can't safely use their real names.

If I used my real name people wouldn't care.

By using Gumby King, people know Im an idiot and they wouldn't care.

I should be clear, the PII issue was not Parler's undoing, it was just a hilarious coda to Parler's brief life.

Thanks for the comments, even though this post was intended for MP administration to consider.  At least, eliminate the prompt for a user name.  Thanks for Petsfed for the security insight. It would have been more enlightening and progressive to get comments from real MP contributors, people who contribute route data and area data. I appreciate those people, like “Monomaniac” type contributors.  It must suck to be a punk-ass scare-dy cat, troll.

Ask fellow guidebook author Zack about why I ended my 15 year streak of using my own name on here.  He thought it was appropriate to contact my employer when I said that his shitty attention attention to detail in his own guidebooks rose above standard guidebooks-are-hard-caveat-emptor, and that he would get someone killed, and that was on him.

You're a guidebook author too right? Should my preferred stance to you be on my knees, in obsequience to your obviously superior claims to anonymity?

I’m with the OP, I am absolutely sick of the aliases and lack of rank designation that flies around here.
