People are complicated, and Shangri La at Shuteye has to be one of the best 11a sport climbs anywhere. No traces of glue or chipping on it as far as I can tell.

Haven't been on that route, and I believe Louie has been around long enough to have established some great natural routes.....but there is nothing complicated about a behavior that has repeated itself hundreds of times, often shrouded in controversy and criticism.

That belongs on the meme thread.

About Louis, I guess we could quote Stannis Baratheon here:

Louie may be a nice guy but his ethics are a steaming pile of dog shit that needs to stay back in the 80s.  Blatantly  chipping holds for entire routes so we have more 5.11s is absolutely fucked. I encourage anyone going to ten sleep to not give him your money, or support a developer with such outdated poor ethics. But im sure he is a pleasant person with more to him than shitty climbing ethics.

Louie hasn’t ruined shit.
he’s done more for the sport than you could ever hope to do in two lifetimes. And he still continues to do so. He’s a true OG. Unless you know him personally, which I highly doubt you do. I wouldn’t talk shit about the guy. Because everyone I’ve ever met, that knows Louie, my self included. Has nothing but nice things to say about him. Do some research, before you bash someone you really know nothing about other than internet rumors.
And as far as not giving him any of your money, lol he’s doing just fine without it.

I went to college with his daughter and I know people who know him personally and have worked with him. It’s more than rumors.

I know him personally, have worked with, and know a lot of others who know him personally. I think as a route developer he can be a complete narcissistic asshat...but that’s as far as I’d go. If you spent time in Ten Sleep you’d witness his little posse that follows him everywhere and listens to his every word. He is extremely personable and a (superficially) caring person individual to those who stay at the rock ranch or encounter him at the crag. He is a business man with, both, his hold company and his route development. There is a reason his blatant manufacturing of routes went unchecked for so long, he knows how finesse people.

Also, I’m not sure what “rumors” you’re talking about. Can you clarify? His actions are very well documented and there is very little up for debate when speaking about most of his manufacturing....even if LA denies.

They key to being a truly successful sociopathic narcissist is a charismatic personality that attracts moths to the flame.

Sincerity is the crux. Once that can be well faked, the rest is as easy as 3nd class scrambling.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
