I have a pair I'm willing to let go. Pretty sure they are 2019 possibly 2018. Lightly used maybe 15 ice pitches and 5 days of techy ski mountaineering.

OK, but how much time have you spent with the originals?  I've used both, going back to 2002.

Never, thats why I asked why they are better for pure ice

Much of it has to do with the older ones being heavier where it counts. They just penetrate on their own, compared to the vicious whack that the new ones so often require.
