Hey!

I started making these dry tooling / ice climbing indoor training tools. You can climb with them on your training wall or in a gym without damaging holds.

You can check them out and order at https://drytoolz.com

Very cool. Did you test doing a pull up on these in a horizontal crack?

Hey! If the crack is wide enough that would be no problem. Didn't test that, but if you place the pick into a tight crack and torque, I guess that will damage the picks.

I’d be interested if you made this out of solid oak or hickory

That would look cool but I'm afraid it can't be made out of solid wood, it would break really easy

That’s confusing, all my hammers and axes have hickory or oak handles and I smash and pry stuff all day with them

It's all about grain direction

Yeah, I guess the piece would have to be very specific like where a limb branched out....or? Maybe something like an Lvl might give it enough to torque on it vs the birch? Could even put in a truss rod like a guitar to give it that extra bit. I like your idea a lot, much better than those rubber strap ones they sell.

There could be some metal plate sandwiched inside for extra strength, but that would aso make it more expensive to make. And if you use these tools in a gym on regular holds, you shouldn't torque on holds anyway, there is a high chance the hold will break first :/
