Where are the BD front points?

Does anyone know why all the BD cyborg/stinger front points have been gone all season? It seems like even the aftermarket ones have been out. Supply chain issue? High demand like the bikes and snowshoes? Something else?

I emailed BD about this a few weeks ago and got a pithy response...

Paraphrasing:

Covid issues, we don't know when they will be available.

I figured it was covid related but that's still vague and unconvincing.... Oh well just gotta be careful with my points I guess.

I mean, to be fair, there are all sorts of small accessory things this season from different manufacturers that are hard to come by. It's definitely covid related. I wouldn't call that a "pithy" response either, personally. Go try and buy a sofa right now.

But why can I go into an REI or online and find Cyborgs and Stinger crampons no problem?

If the front points are not available, then one would also expect crampons to be in short supply.

Dang, that's a real stumper. I'll have to think about that one.

Petzl picks were hard to come by for a bit too a month ago.

I emailed CAMP about X Dream picks, will update if I get a response.

Buy a set of crampons, swap the front points with your current used ones, resell on MP and a slight discount. You get new points and someone new who doesn't need super sharp points will be stoked to get discounted crampons.

Better idea. Buy new poons and sell the old ones. i don't put new points on crampons. By the time the front points wear out its time to move on...

that is a much better idea haha! But, what...? You must be climbing on some extremely beat frontpoints or selling off mint condition crampon frames. I’ve put in new points twice this year and my crampons have many years of life left.

I do a lot of soloing. can't afford to break a  spacer bar or that stupid little bolt that holds the front points to the crampons.  also when your front point gets dull so do your secondary points. I try to  rotate  to fresh crampons every season.  or as has been the case lately I run several pairs at once for different types of climbs so they last  two seasons or so (weekend warrior) .   Its nice having  new secondary points and not having to worry about  metal fatigue when your 1k feet off the deck sans cord...  shop the sales and it's not that bad. sell the old rigs for $75.00 and the new pair cost about $100.00

Yes that's accurate, they were still out of stock 4 days ago when this thread was posted and had been for a couple of weeks. I just noticed they're in stock this evening and ordered some spares.

Nice climbing next to you yesterday :-)
