The greatful dead is getting allot more popular nowadays mostly because of Chris Benchetlor.  Just wondering how many climbing dead heads there are who actually listen to them. Most of you still probably don’t even know who they are tho

Is this an EDM Dj or group?

I really dont think the Grateful Dead is getting more popular because of Chris Benchetlor, seeing as I just had to google him to find out who he was.

I don’t know whether to break it to the OP that “a lot” is two words, or whether to let him know there is only one L in a lot, oh the dilemma....

I'm just surprised I don't see more of these at the crag:

Huge deadhead here.  Never heard of that guy

I would be willing to bet that 30% of climbers have a some type of Grateful Dead sticker on their car/cooler/waterbottle

Some rise, some fall, some climb! To get to Terrapin...

No clue who Chris B is.

This is what he is referring to, and it's (in my opinion) an amazing video.

Thanks for sharing this is a very cool video!

I guess, despite being one of the most popular American bands ever and instantly selling out recent reunion tours, 600k youtube views on a snowboarding video really does constitute a revitalization!

No I’m honestly surprised no one has even heard of him, he is a skier but I still thought most climber’s would know what I’m talking about. I guess I proved my theory wrong.

Excuse my ignorance ive never been a fan. I thought that the Grateful Dead was dead. I was under the impression that without Gerry they are just "the Dead". How does a band missing the key member have a reunion tour? That would be like Nirvana with no Kurt.

Nirvana with John Mayer on the other hand...

Jimi Hendrix was mostly unknown before Short Fall Sean played Red House at a campfire. Now lots of climbers have heard of him!

You're on the wrong website. Head over to the TGR forums for Grateful Dead and Chris Benchetler content.

Hey Cut, I guess where we live in SLC most climbers also ski.   I was thinking, maybe there’s not so much crossover of those two activities in other places.

No worries I am just a grumpy jaded school teacher that has not had a kid in their classroom for 11 months, sigh...

Huge deadhead here. I have had many great interactions with fellow Heads in the wild that solely occurred because of a pin on my hat or a Grateful Dead decorated mask. It just seems to immediately invite friendly conversation upon a huge swath of common ground that may otherwise have gone unnoticed. The GD line of skis are also incredibly beautiful, IMO.

So true- was getting questioned by a NPS ranger one time about having my dog running around and he also pointed out the drill and the pipe lying on the ground....... That’s when I pointed out the GD bracelet on his wrist. All I needed to ask was “when and where was your first show?” .....   Instant fellowship! Got off with a nod and a wink.
Goodtimes!
BTW ... my first show was in a park in Ojai- 1974
