Climbing on highway bridges?

Saw pictures of the Maple Bridge in Redmond. Are there any other places like this? What about public climbing walls in general? |

Whoa what do you think this is, Europe? Public climbing walls? You think cities/states want to get sued? |

There were bridges and underpasses with routes in SoCal. However, none of them were officially sanctioned. |

It says it's open again. |

Tyler Jaszwrote: Plus Les Gove in Auburn, the Kenticle in Kent, that weird one in south Tacoma and a few others. |

a few spots on the blue ridge parkway bridges that are less than legal but good climbing. |

One of my formative experiences was getting arrested for belying my buddy up a fist crack on a building in Amarillo, TX back in the 90s. Go for it. |

We do this all of time in Germany. It has served me well during corona restrictions. I do it all of the time. I even top rope soloed so bridges. There's even a guide book in German. https://klettern-shop.de/kletterfuehrer/1239-buildering-spots-deutschland Once you start to look, you'll see lines all over the place... churches towers, civil engineering stuff. |

I did it on a bridge in DC in 1976. Almost got arrested by the cops. Be careful!!! |

1980's bridge climbing. Back when we used 1" tubular webbing for quickdraws, sticht plates and twin ropes. |

There is buildering just about everywhere. Not necessarily always legal though; just don't be too conspicuous. Generally the worse that will happen is you get run off. We used to have a buildering circuit at Oklahoma U. |

Richmond, VA has a park with a few old railroad bridge towers officially equiped for climbing. Not as epic as Maple Bridge looks. The guide (downloadable from page) claims 43 routes 5.4 -5.11a. https://jamesriverpark.org/project/manchester-climbing-wall/ I think it's a pretty cool re-purpose of 'abandoned' infrastructure. |
