Reel Rock 15 Group Ticket
|
|
As a random single data point I was delighted to pay $20 to not have to go to a theater and deal with people. Even when theaters open I'd happily pay 2-3x the cost of a ticket to watch new movies at home. |
|
|
For the price, you would think it could stream in 4K video... and you could download the video to watch later. Our group also DEFINITELY paid $20 per person, so don’t worry about that! |

It seems the problem is the wording "group ticket". RR would have done better to have NOT mentioned the word "group", only that you needed to purchase a ticket for each viewer. I think that is the confusion Matt was responding to. The personal insults (as usual per Mt. Jihad) were unnecessary. We have more than enough anger towards each other in this country, let's try to calm it down a bit. |

Black Ice was super well done. Was just as emotionally invested in watching the kid top rope that ice pitch as I was with Melissa’s beast mode send of Action Directe or Lonnie’s send of Magic Line. Hazel and Maddy are the best. Would have liked to have seen more of Melissa and that level of dedication and training for one route. Deep Roots was incredible. Where were the footholds?!?!?! |

Conrad Anker impersonating Donald Trump was the absolute best part of the whole evening. |

This is thievery. Filmmakers, climbers, musicians, and artists spend hundreds of hours of their time creating content, and you want to deprive them of their due right to a royalty by sharing their work? Unbelievable. I thought the climbing community was better than this. |

Will Murdock, Yeah I know I'm late. I am passionate about the subject of people wanting creative content for free. I feel if you see something, say something. Otherwise, silence says you agree. |

We're glad to have you with us. Feel free to select your preferred size of stone to which you can seemingly chuck at my name, reputation, and self-esteem even after the issue has been resolved. I have apologized, explained my intentions, and made up for my offer that was meant to be a kind gesture. My email is attached to my profile if you feel you have something to add or say to me, but if you are adding things to shit on me just so everyone else can see that you're a person with "good ethics", then that ship has sailed. Now, let's continue to talk about Reel Rock, politics and ethics aside. |

Ok. I would have liked to see more of Lonnie on Crossroads, it looked amazing. |

Hey Matt, fwiw I’m impressed by how well you handled some pretty harsh criticism, including some from me. Not entirely sure I would do as well |

Black Ice hands down the best of the bunch. The Kauk story was slightly depressing knowing there was an untold story of an absent father and a son trying to be good enough for his love - maybe too heavy and unresolved to delve deeper into that - but it’s all I saw as I watched. Hazel’s privilaged white girl vacation definitely provided a strong contrast to Black Ice and made me realize how white-bread climbing culture is. Cute girls, but I could have gotten the whole thing in a 6 photo Instagram story, right along with the 1000’s of others. Someone needs to figure out a new way to film the send - queue the inspirational music, some slow-mo, a close-up expression - such formulaic puke after every single climbing movie ever doing the same exact thing. Surprise us - the send go is almost always a surprise. |

It's a little unfortunate for Hazel to be in this RR and so clearly contrasted with the other films when she's no different than the usual RR fare. In fact I always thought she came off as unusually cool for a young rock climber. Definitely someone I'd have a beverage with, unlike most of the roided up BoCo tweens screaming and crying over a pitch of rock in between joints. |

I really enjoyed Alex's hosting. I thought it was absolutely hilarious. Especially "mais, let's do the interview in English". I was laughing out loud. And contrary to different "send go" filming, I was fooled twice in this film. I thought Melissa was gonna send then she started missing the move out left, and I thought Lonnie was gonna send then he took to talk about gear ripping. Kept me on my toes. |

Really loved Black Ice! Far and away my favorite and I have pretty much no interest in ice climbing. Such a refreshing change of pace from someone doing something 5% harder than the last thing that’s like 12 grades harder than I’ll ever do. Love the format of community center x gym. The gyms in/near Detroit are awesome but really quite cost prohibitive, as I imagine is the case elsewhere. Itd be really cool to see that kind of thing become more common! Action directe film made me want to eat more vegetables, and Hazels film was pretty neat but felt a little flat next to the others. Also totally agree that Lonnies film was really cool but ultimately made me a bit sad. Oh and if Honnold does end up commenting on the Olympics it’s gonna be hilarious. |

Kellen Bwrote: Am I the only one who is bored with Honnold's "I'm too cool to be bothered with anything" shtick? The Olympic athletes deserve an announcer who can convey some genuine excitement about the climbing and the climbers. As for the Hazl film, being goofy and silly isn't the same as being funny. Or interesting. And the drama of being apprehended for climbing on the sacred rock just seemed forced and make believe. Reel Rock has become totally formulaic, the same people, the same ideas, the Warren Miller of climbing videos. |
