Middle finger knuckle pain. I looked and couldn't find the same description anywhere.

I have the same issue in my left hand, middle knuckle gets visibly swollen and quite sore. I usually need a day or two for it to recover after climbing. Top rope belaying seems to bother it more than climbing since I’m pulling the rope down with my left hand repeatedly. It helps to use an ascender on the rope when TR belaying. I took 2 months off of climbing and it didn’t help at all.

I have a similar symptom that bother me for almost 3 months.

I also searched online and found nothing at all, expect this topic and a other one in reddit.

Finally, I go to a doctor and having X ray and sonography, the doctor told me that it is a mild flexor tendinitis(on the back site of the mid finger knuckle, the central slip tendon)

And the doctor told me that there is no treatment or medication need, expect resting, stretching & hot compress. But if the flexor tendinitis got worse and become serious adhesion or scar tissue, he told me, I can consider to have low energy low energy laser therapy or surgery.

I think the mild soreness or pain in finger may be a tendinitis. the stress fracture or tendon, ligament rupture must be much more painful and easy to discover the mobility decrease.

One of a useful reference for me to know more about finger injury.

I like how your username flows off my lips. It's very melodic. Like poetry.

yeah one day i was stretching it and i noticed that the soreness comes from the backside of the knuckle. i might possible have the same thing or have strained the same tendon. i dont think i can take too long from climbing, i train pretty seriously and frequently but i just tape the shit out of it and most of the time it doesnt swell or get sore. i noticed also as my fingers get stronger it bothers me less and less but if i pull on it sideways accidently then it will swell and get sore so i try to stay away from movements that might cause that. i am considering seeing a specialist about it. if you are treating it, let me know how the process goes and if you have any success with it, then i might try it as well because it sounds like you and i have basically the same injury. thank your for sharing. i really appreciate it Qian.
