Hi all, was wondering if there’s any way that if you’re willing to tough out the cold, it’s possible to climb at Palisade Head. Was hoping to just make a quick run by there in a couple(ish) weeks and was curious if the rock will even be climbable. If you’re just going for some cracks that already start a ways up will it be dry?

Is the non ice climbing accessible you think? Haven't really climbed ice before (i.e. don't have the gear or experience) and don't thing palisade is the place to start lol. More just interested in getting up some of the classics on the rock (urge to mate, superior crack, driving in duluth, etc).

I don't think anybody can reliably answer this question for you. I'd guess there is probably snow on top and ice in cracks now. It's not going to see a lot of sun either and wind/weather off the lake can always be interesting. I'm weak and hang up the shoes and chalk this time each year in exchange for crampons and tools but if it's your jam, get after it. It might also be 50 degrees and comfortable.

Sounds good, I was just curious if anyone had any experience climbing up there around that time or not. Minnesota weather is definitely wacky though so guess we’ll see when it actually comes up.

Yes you can climb in the cold. If the wind is very low. The face warms up nicely, cracks will be very cold. Bring a tarp to stand on to keep your shoes dry if there is snow on edges. Usually snow will melt bake a bit from edges. Thursday is 50. Wall will be warm

Sorry, but it’s gotta be said, But if one “Avery Truong” is going to Palisade Head, he must climb “A Feathery Tong”

Just a side note but does anyone have any info on cam sizes that’ll work to build an anchor? Right now I have a 1.25-00. Should that be large enough or should I figure out how to get a couple #2 and #3s?
