Emily Harrington First Woman to Free El Cap IAD
To hell with Lynn Hill and Steph Davis right? Is it honestly that hard to do an intzy bitzy amount of research or have a slight understanding of the subject matter? You know, journalism? |
Looks like they corrected it already. Someone at The Guardian must have read your post |
lol, godammit Sam I posted that 10 minutes ago. You live on MP? |

Apparently only three other people have free climbed golden gate. Too bad Jordan Cannon, hubers, etc. someone should donate to The Guardian so they can afford mountain proj and wikipedia. Wow, so many errors. Like half or more of their facts are wrong |
^^^^So Many Errors!^^^ Tommy Caldwell, Alex Honnold, Brad Gobright, & Emily Harrington have climbed Golden Gate in a day. Tons of others have free climbed Golden Gate, but not in a day. |
Not acknowleging Skinner and Piana freed it before Hill makes me think they dug up some old shit on Supertopo. |
Didn't Jordan try to free Golden Gate in a day this year, but narrowly missed? In some ways this is more impressive than Emily's ascent given how much stronger a climber she is (I don't think Jordan has climbed 5.14 and Emily's climbed a number of them). |

Outstanding accomplishment by Emily - on many levels, Bravo! From sport climbing, indoor comps, El Cap and Everest, not many if any can claim that kind of climbing range! Amazing how editors can butcher otherwise fairly accurate stories just for a click bait headline. I should really know this, was Lynn Hill the first person to Free El cap in a day In 94? And when she freed the Nose the year before, was she the first person to lead all the pitches free on an El Cap route in her ascent? |
And now CNN: "Emily Harrington becomes the first woman to free-climb El Capitan in under 24 hours " |
FAKE NEWS! |
Looks like everyone’s running with the same fake news. Retractions, corrections, and apologies to Lynn are in order! |
Wasn't Lynn also the first person to free El Cap in a day by any major route (ie, excluding the West Face, East Butt, etc)? She is simply one of the best climbers (male or female) to ever touch rock. Lynn didn't get anywhere near the press, but in fairness, the 24-hr news cycle wasn't the same then as it is now. |
John RB wrote: What do you mean she didn’t get anywhere near the press? She’s been in the press for decades continuing to this day. She did commercials, starred in some game shows, and was a guest on Letterman. |
The guardian updated and changed their info. BBC just ran it wrong an hour ago, I emailed them and asked to correct it. It’s cool that Emily is getting a lot of top headlines today, hopefully not just cause of the stats inaccuracy. Anyway, that’s an awesome accomplishment. Congrats Emily Harrington! |

It occurred before many of today's climbers were born |
