You can HMU when a good snowfall comes down. I relatively new to ski touring but I managed to tick off a lot in Socal last season. It was a good snowfall.  Went to Sugarloaf once, it was ok, but maybe I need to find some better lines.  San G area is really fun, but its a really long day hike, or chill overnighter. I'll be looking for more partners anyways.

I'm down for So Cal touring partners. I'm in Santa Barbara. I'll go south when the snow is alright, but head to the E Sierra most often.

Ethan / Alex / Rich - When the rocks are covered and the snow is fresh I'll be trying to get out as well !!

big fan of early starts & cold temps. I ski mostly on the eastside, but when storms slap Baldy I go straight there ! looking to visit other SoCal ski peaks as well. Hopefully we get some.

hard to believe last year it caught like 2.5 feet? on thanksgiving weekend. I think it was Thanksgiving day we rode the bowl. Light and fluffy early, getting heavy by 11am !

Yeah, you and your brother rip! Your videos always get me psyched. I missed both big storm days on Baldy (Thanksgiving and Xmas) but I'm dropping everything to ski it more often this time. Baden Powell is really fun with several different days and a decent approach.  Some other peaks that I skied late in the season are fun too. With work from home I can get those morning runs in on the weekdays.

Hi guys,

New to this site and new to BC skiing. Pretty good inbounds skier. I have all my touring equipment (at least for day tours), and am taking the Avy 1 class over xmas. Would love to go out before then on some mellower stuff to test out my equipment and get some experience under my belt before the class, and then after would love to graduate to some heavier stuff after. Let me know if I can tag along when the snow falls! Thanks!

I would also like to throw my hat into the ring if there's anyone left who still needs a touring partner. I've had over 10 years of BC (guided) snowboard experience and proficient with shovel/probe. took my avy 1 last year and rode some local stuff. I'm down for early starts and steep lines, but also willing to bail if the conditions are garbage.

definitely want to hit Baldy, San G, and other local stuff. Hit me up when the snow starts! Hoping for a good season

One more looking for local partners this season.  Been touring consistently for about 8 years and have my Avy 1 and WFA.  ThomasR, I’m also in LA.  I’d be down to meet up once the snow comes in.  Looks like there’s a base building this weekend!

Stoked the season is approaching. Definitely down to get out with psyched and fit folks. I think San G is my favorite playground just because so much of it is north facing and has the potential to stay nice for so long. Thoroughly enjoyed exploring the vast array of options on Jepson last season as well as linking together peaks in the area for some decently large traverses, although I'm down for other local areas plus sierra as well. I've got my avy 1 and a decent bit of experience in the backcountry. Hoping things stay cold and we get another solid storm before thanksgiving for a potential early start to the season.

Baldy might get a decent snowfall Monday.  Anyone interested in hiking up with some skis?  Low expectations.

Colin Sander · · Los Angeles · Joined Oct 2014 · Points: 126

Ethan ! feeling the stoke with this first rain. Honestly might find a couple good turns on Mon or Tues... & plenty of sharks.

I think it needs one more storm to be truly fun / not destroy your skis, but I heard a local once say, 'there are skis, there are rock-skis, and then there are baldy skis'. doing a 'winter mtneering' style hike up would be super fun and pretty right now though I bet. I'm hoping to get out on the eastside with a friend on Sat the 9th, if you want to join. thinking Kidd mtn, I like that bowl for sharky early season, its finer gravel than other slopes, not much talus, and tends to bucket snow. <3 <3  plus fairly daytrippable drive.

Ethan, Did you make it up there today?  Mt Waterman is reporting 10" with more to come tonight.  Baldy is reporting a foot.

Keep me posted on the 9th! I'd be interested.  I'm checking out some local snow Wed with a friend, be it Baldy, or somewhere else (SBD Mountains). Could be a just taking the skis for a walk

Well ladies and gents I was gonna have some Baldy beta for you, and guess I still do

Theyre turning anyone and everyone around without chains, and I don't just mean the Prius' even Duramax 2500 with all terrain tires and locking differentials were turned around today..... Obviously myself included, assuming this will last til at least Monday.

It’s low tide and melting out. Bring your rock skis. Found some form skiable snow looker’s right and started hitting rocks after five turns.

Ethan, sweet that you got up there. Quite a holiday storm but sounds like a base is much needed. Where exactly did you ski?

Colin Sander · · Los Angeles · Joined Oct 2014 · Points: 126

Great beta Ethan, kindof what we were expecting. I was trying to sit this one out and let the base build but my friend Gil dragged me out... when we arrived at Baldy's road at 4:45 am it was blocked with police supervising. Had Chains (no 4wd this time) ended up audible ing to hwy 2 / wrightwood... just to poke around and stretch the legs, hopefully get Views of baldy N face. Road was impassable from about 2 mi before the crest of the hill / blue ridge. Weather was completely socked in up high. The congo line of cars coming up for snow play was downright apocyptic by 9:30 when we were driving down... it stretched all the way to the left turn on hwy 2. 5/6am starts latest are key.

Decent coverage over there, this is at least a good socal base builder we need. Got a few pics & vids for beta. If the storm next week happens i do feel like Sat 9th will be primo in sierra. Idk about socal.

Wow Wrightwood coverage better than expected! I was thinking same for next weeks storm with Sierras vs Socal
